Getting canned on Insurance. Need Help.

Tim - I haven't called JR Duffy or any of the brokers who gave my those 3500 quotes back yet. I'm going to match my situation to those of two others who both started riding in the last 2 or 3 years at about 1200 - 1400 a year and see what the differences are, if any.

Generally, they say its something to do with age or inexperience. Each place seems to have a slightly different policy that's dependent on age, number of years with a license, or number of years previously insured. Either way, I usually fit into them because I'm a young new rider with 0 experience.

I had a few traffic tickets in the early years of having my license but all we're fought to remove points and wouldn't fall within the last 3 years anyways.

The way it looks, the family plan is my best bet but I am for sure going to seek out whatever it is that's making my other quotes so high.

PS, Yeah, all my quotes have been for liability only.

Unfortunately Jevco is probably the only place that will insure your vintage bike. No one else will touch anything older than 25 years. And don't bother with classic insurance, it's for occasional use only and not for regular riding.

Your best bet is to call JR Duffy. It's a small brokerage with a few people working there and they answer the phone. They'll walk through the quote and should be able to tell you what the scoop is. Doing it online is IMHO a waste of time.

Yeah online seems that way to me as well. JR Duffy is the broker of choice though if I choose to pursue Jevco. Everybody speaks pretty highly of their service.

The lowest rate so far is State Farm at 2800 and 1600 if i can make the family plan happen.

This seems odd because everything I've read on state farm seemed to claim they were the worst for prices.

If you have any convictions on your driving record, yes they will be the priciest. But I don't think they insure old bikes. Seriously, Jevco is the default insurer when it comes to vintage stuff, regardless of which broker you use.

I just called TD about getting a quote on my CBR. Out of curiosity I asked about insuring older bikes. Turns out they won't start a new insurance policy on bikes older then 30 years (if your bike was insured and rolled over 30 years its fine apparently). :/

Any luck with your search?

I'm with Primmun Ins.
Been with them a few years with my '78.
Not sure how they will quote you, but you can give them a try:

I have a 1980 honda cx500 Deluxe. Paying $560 for the year, and I currently live in BTown. This is with Jevco (Dalton Timmins). My record isn't 100% clean, and I'm in my low 30s, and I like long walks on the beach. Hopefully I didn't give away too much personal info... :)

Here's contact info on my broker, oh and never ever lie when you're trying to get a quote for insurance, but tell them what's a way to lower your rate and they'll tell you honestly. Always be insured on any policy, even if it's your parents at home as an occasional driver as this will show continuity in your driving history.

I'm With TD(Primmun) in New Brunswick, and I pay $602.00 a year for 2 bikes 81 CM400 and 79 GL1000 PLPD (Liability) only. They also take it out over 7 months in riding season, but insurance is good for the year. They give Discounts for University grads and for Memberships to Professional organizations. I have both and had the MSF course so got all discounts, it only cost me $400 for one bike with them my first year of riding. The second bike only added 200 bucks, as they know I can't ride both at the same time, however I can loan one to someone with a valid license to ride ocassionally no prob as long as they do not live at my address.

I'm with TD as well. When I asked about it, they told me that they won't open a new policy on a bike over thirty years old. They did quote me at around $300 for a 1984 500CC and $490 for a 1984 750CC. Not too bad I suppose. My 1996 CBR600SE is around $708.00
