Green...

Been Around the Block
So, the more I think about how I will paint my XS when it's ready for the task (still a ways off), the harder it is becoming to not go with green. When I started the project, I was pretty much set on the more modern Yamaha blue, but only because I'm not a fan of the yellow from the '70's Yamahas. I still plan on some version of the "film strip" design with black & white, but I've got a specific green in mind. Something like this...

Now...I am not, nor have I ever been, one to be superstitious. I'm also not going to be swayed by anyone's opinion why I should or shouldn't do it. I've read some of the reasons why the color became superstitious. I'm just curious what others with green bikes have experienced. Any stories to share about your green machine, photos, specific reasons why you chose to go green, etc...

Cheers,
-Jeff

My bike was green briefly. Very green and very briefly. Didn't work for me. The color was spur of the moment when I couldn't find the color I wanted. So after about a hundred 'nice Kawi' (mine's a Honda) comments I repainted. I'll dig up some pics and post them up.

Here she was...

Here's orange...

And white at Kiley's 2010..

Now she's black...

My least favorite was the green...

Green is one of the colours that needs to be really well thought out.
Kawasaki green is pretty bright but the metallic on the 'new' Z1000 a few years ago was pretty hideous
Tank, tail and side panels (if you have them), doesn't work for me
Eventually, I'm going to paint my XS650 dark green, but, it will not be having much black with it (the CB750 pic shows effect)

i love green! did my bro whole wing in it...
we are currently coating a snowmobile where every part of metal is either green or yellow

Thanks for the response guys.

Deviant,
I never saw pics of Dolores when she was green. Must have been between orange and white? Thanks for posting. I kinda like it in the green stage. Coulda had some tank logos made up to say "Notasaki" ;D

BTW, your seat is still one of my all time favorites! I got a lot of inspiration from it for my seat build. I see you've made some changes to it. Out of necessity?

Cheers,

Before it was fiberglass riveted to a metal pan with bondo over it. I just made a fiberglass pan to save weight and I also raised the edge to about 1/4 inch above the level of the pan to cover the bottom edge of the pad. It was a lot of work for a little bit of sugar, but I'm pleased.
And thank you very much for your compliment. I'm glad you like it dude.

Oh man...the more I stare at that color sample the more I dig it.
Dark gold or light bronze frame, gold anodized alloy rims.....booyah!
If you don't.....I might! haha

That's a killer shade of green fo sho! 8)

Some peripheral bike fans will probably assume it's a Kawi tho.

My bright red KZ gets the, "Nice Ducati!" comments all the time.  Sheesh. :-X

Dude, bikes and green is porn, hence the 650:

That said, I'm still gonna repaint it for something more "me" one day. But that colour sample you've got looks the ducks nuts.

My bike is green... Never realized there were any sort of superstitions about having one? ???

I think it's an old British racing thing as "British Racing Green" was considered unlucky. Maybe it was linked to a perception of more crashes.

I found this on wiki:

"Green is also known to have signified witchcraft, devilry and evil for its association with faeries and spirits of early English folklore. It also had an association with decay and toxicity ... The color, when combined with gold, is seen as representing the fading of youth. In the Celtic tradition, green was avoided in clothing for its superstitious association with misfortune and death. Green is thought to be an unlucky color in British and British-derived cultures, where green cars, wedding dresses, and theater costumes are all the objects of superstition ... In some Far East cultures the color green is often used as a symbol of sickness and/or nausea."

I noticed the mention of Green and Gold there too Swag.

I had been thinking about repainting my 650 at some point, perhaps I should do that sooner rather than later :-\

Depending on certain cultures, green can represent either good, or bad luck. It can symbolize fertility, love, lust, inexperience, jealousy, toxicity, sickness, wealth, etc, etc, etc... and with M&Ms, an aphrodisiac! ;D

It seems to me that the most dominant theory of green being bad luck on motorcycles stems from WWII and the use of olive drab on HDs. It also seems that this superstition is a lot stronger in the HD community that other makes. Just an observation though.

To me, it all comes down to what YOU believe, and I believe I'm gonna have me a green motorsickle! ;D
