Good progress today. Some of this is test fitting mind you, but hope of a completed bike is now in visable reach. Lots of work ahead as its all in the details and dicking around for hours on small stuff. I think getting the carbs to fit now is going to be a bitch. Then the wiring is always a week.. somehow my subfamily shrank in the powder coating oven.. etc. Etc.
I still need a countershaft offset front sprocket. My machinest has gone silent on it. Not sure if anyone on here can do that kind of stuff.
I'm not sure I like the contrasting silvers of the powder coat and the engine. Headlight is too high.

You know what I'm not sure but I would be suprised if it didn't because the only thing that separates a vtwin electrical wise from say other engines types is the ignition which you run a separate box for anyways.
Your rectifier is easy to install independently too.
Sooooo many pages back where I split the frame and made custom brackets, back then you were probly like WTF is that for?? Well many moons later you finally get to find out.. I'm using tie rods to reconnect the frames to add flexible rigidity. I plan on using rubber inserts as well to absorb minor chassis vibration. Again this build focuses on "custom meets function", no trailer queen here, it just most of the time ends up looking good in the process though..lol.
Now I just need to decide X formation or strait up and down. I like the looks of the X crossing each other but I like the symmetrical look of the tie rods being both in front of the flanges. To X them I had put one in behind.
Also tapping the rear set for the Brembo master vs nissin.
Ok now muffler choice.. This is a hard one. I had a spare set of titanium mufflers kicking around so I thought it would be fun to try them. I'm looking for opinions here.
My thoughts? From the side I like the vintage. From the back I like the modern.
Sound wise I expect them to both to sound awesome but I expect the modern to be quieter. Modern is also 0.5 to 1lb heaver per side. I weighed them to see if would effect my decision.
That's a tough one. If weight loss is the goal then I'd say the lighter ones, pound here pound there idea. I like the modern ones to match the huge rear tire, USD's, dual disks, etc. The modern ones do also look really good from behind. However, I do like the vintage ones to go with the Gulf vibe you've got going with the paint (LOVE the gulf paint btw ). In the end its your call though, and I'm sure either will look really good.
Normally, my vote would be for the classic style, in fact before the photo loaded I had anticipated saying to go that way for sure. BUT! My vote goes for the new cans something about them just works IMHO
This thing is gonna sit very low. Good thing you went with rearsets or you would be scraping the stock pegs all over the place. I llike the modern exhaust better any way you could bring them in closer? Maybe move the upsweep closer to the rearsets? Nice looking XV man.
I think you nailed it. From the side, the vintage style pipes do look a little better, but from the back, definitely the modern. Typically I would lean towards the vintage style, but the modern cans could work on this one.
On your bike, I like the vintage look better. And that comes from someone who would usually side the other way. They are just so fitting. Especially from the side view, just as you said.
Either way, it is looking great all around.
