Honda CL350 Build - Help Needed!

Re: Honda CL350 Build

Its was at 2800 RPMs. I didnt leave it running for very long to see if the idle would drop after it warmed up.

Re: Honda CL350 Build

That does seem pretty high - I don't think the idle screws even adjust that far. I'd say stop jetting all together for now. You can start it and rev it clean, then the jets are at a good starting point.

Back to that idle - check the idle screws first, then the throttle cable. If that isn't it either, it's time to check the insides of the carbs again.

Thanks for the help. Its not the throttle cable, so I've got my fingers crossed that I can get the revs down with the idle screws.

Re: Honda CL350 Build

Without going and looking back, did you pull the carbs apart? The slide might be sticking or on some carbs, it's possible to put the slides in backwards (sloped side facing the motor). But that would put the rpm's in the upper range

I did pull the carbs apart to rejet, but the slides will only go in one way. I'm gonna check to see if I've got a leak in the intake boots, see if my advance mech. is messed up, and just let it run for a bit to see if there is any change.

Re: Honda CL350 Build - HELP!

Theres no leak in my intake boots and my spark advance moves freely. In fact it seems really loose. Hows easy should it be to move the arms on the spark advance? Anyways I let the bike sit for a long time and the idle dropped to around 2k. If I roll on the throttle it revs up fine and decelerates fine. If I hit the throttle hard it boggs and dies. Also the bike is dying under a load, I have to rev it really high when putting it into gear, or it dies. Any of you masterminds out there go any idea of whats going on?

Re: Honda CL350 Build

I'm no mastermind, but if it's dying under load one of your cylinders isn't firing. Check for spark and compression.

Don't know what to say about the high idle. Sorry.

Re: Honda CL350 Build

Well I'm gonna start with new spark plugs and hope for the best. I know I've got lower compression in one of my cylinders, but it was firing. May be doing that oversized piston kit, this summer instead of waiting till next winter ::).

Re: Honda CL350 Build

Just noticed something - if you go back to the very first post on your build and change the title there, the new title will show up on the "cafe racers" page.

When my 175 was stalling under a load, it was because the 1 cylinder wasn't firing. Ended up being something in the carbs..... can't remember what exactly though. And try using insulated pliers to pull the spark plug boot off while it's running. If that particular side isn't firing, then pulling the boot won't affect your idle.

when i start up my bike, i got an SR500 depending on the weather..but many times..the rpms are high..and after a while when the bike will get its..working temp, the rpms go back to normal..so you should get a long ride first...and then adjust your screw.

i think i have found the right point..after a year of riding :p
