Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 - STATUS: STOLEN

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(can i get some charging system help?)

problem RECTIFIED. (get it?)
swapped out the rectifier and it appears to be charging. thanks rev, troy, and frog!

she's kind of screaming for the fork lowers to be painted now though...

here's my tail light on the bike, haven't taken a picture of that yet...

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(charging system RECTIFIED. new shocks)

I love the lines, very sleek. Nice work dude!

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(charging system RECTIFIED. new shocks)

so i'm planning on a big winter project with lazarus here... strip her down and paint the frame and engine and redo the wiring.

what should i do while the engine is out of the frame? i'm sure it's a golden opportunity i just don't know what kind of trouble i should be looking forward to getting into...

oh, and i think i'm going to switch back to stock shocks, the new ones are just too stiff.

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(what to do this winter)

Get the rocker cover off of that bad boy and ensure everything on the top end is still in spec (especially check for wear on the cam journals and the rocker arm. Side-to-side clearances of the cam should be checked as well). No need to worry about the bottom end too much unless you know something is wrong is going on down there.

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(what to do this winter)

Check the cam chain tensioner and sliper. Mine was almost all the way eaten through and cracked.

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(what to do this winter)

cool. i'll be asking a million questions when the time comes. just wanted an idea of what to expect.

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(what to do this winter)

Love the bike man! I have a 75' CB360 and I am making notes on most of your progress for the future of my baby. Good luck and keep it up!

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(battery not charging. again.)

my battery is not charging again. revving the engine doesn't increase voltage. bad luck or is there something going on that's killing rectifiers?

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(battery not charging. again.)

funny, same thing happened to me today. rode it around the block and ended up pushing it home. i havent pulled out the multimeter yet so i have no idea where to start. were you able to find decently priced rectifiers?

Where are you measuring the voltage?

across the battery terminals.

i checked the continuity between wires on both the stator and the rectifier per the manual and both checked out. what am i missing?

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(battery not charging. again.)

Everything wired in correctly? No shorts or open circuits? Ground wires grounded??

What about resistance, I know the manual doesn't give specs but maybe someone has a ohm range for a good stator they can post? Also, Anyone know if you can test for AC output at the stator wires and a range?

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(battery not charging. again.)

Stator resistance will probably be around 5 ohms lead to lead
You also need to check any stator lead to ground, make sure insulation is still good (any ohms reading to ground is 'A BAD THING')
Dynamic test
Switch meter to at least 100 v AC
disconnect stator from harness/reg/rect.
Plug meter leads into stator, start engine, read between any 2 output leads, should get around 70+volts AC @5,000 rpm (I've seen 110v on a Honda C50 at 9,500 rpm  )
If stator is good, the problem is either your wiring/connections or faulty reg/rect

Should've know you'd be the one to answer that one ;) , PJ you are the man. Thanks for helping everyone out all the time like you do. BTW, my jetting is getting very close, need to drill those primary chokes again though,
