My first ever CB450 build has commenced.

The bike is absolutely stunning. There is a lot of hard work there and the effort shows. Sucks it doesn't start. How does it start with the e-start??? I could only imagine the frustration because you have gone over every last inch (mm) of this bike i am sure. My advice is pretend its not yours, sit down i have a few cold ones and start with the basics. Sometimes the problem is so simple but is easy to overlook cause when your looking at the bike you have so much going on in your head. If you got spark and compression make sure floats are set right and not fuel soaked. Also make sure the choke is operating both carbs and one choke butterfly is not off 180 (not sure if this applies to your bike). Good luck hope your kickin that thing to life in no time!

Awesome bike. Your thread is truly an inspiration. I have a rust bucket '73 CB450 that doesn't run given to me by my uncle. Maybe I'll make a build thread as we've just started working on it. Once we get it running and everything working I'll be giving it the cafe treatment. :)

Damn, that sucks. Looks like you have a few good heads on the job (and a girlfriend that can hang upside down while talking on the phone!).

I hope you manage to get it going, but just in case, there's no shame in taking it to a shop after all you've done on this beauty. Hell, give the boys in there a treat ;) You're going to have to find a place with an old-school mechanic of course.

good luck.

Yo Spidey. Go look at 8negro

"CB One of the nicest I've seen for a long time. Simple, clean, light ...
A great work of his own that shows very well photographed.
Seeing this kind of bike makes you want to get into the material and have one. More and more I like the cafe racer city, small displacement.
Great work "spider-man."

After having a disappointing weekend, this has made my day ;D

Hi guys,

I need help as to where I could ascertain a new starter motor? At this stage the current one spins super slow or can I do anything to bring the old one back to life?

Thanks,

Spidey

EBAY US has starter rebuild kits

when i had trouble with my CB450 it was timing. Make double sure your timing, both valve and ignition are dead on. Also try reversing the leads for the coils I had mine swapped so it had spark but the wrong coil was firing at TDC. What are the compression readings, it should be around 180psi for an engine rebuild and the limit is 155 i believe. good luck and nice ride

I appreciate everyones input, but unfortunately this is beyond my expertise ;D today I decided I'm going to take it into a work shop in Beaconsfield Sydney. The guys there were very excited to work on it. Stay tuned for the official photos and hopefully a video or 2 :)

Thanks guys for all your help during this build, it was fun and it was a good learning curve for me.
