ok guys, Got the shifter side rearset on... Still have a little work to do, gotta make a spacer for the back side...
Is anyone else having problems seeing the pics I've been posting? My pops tried to see the build, and none of the pics were visible to him? ???

yeah i see it. is the armature going to make contact with that plate? or are we just looking at it from a bad angle?

Nope, it hits... that's why I need to make a spacer... it'll basically be nothing more than a .500 thick washer, but it should do the trick!

Help!!
I've done everything I can think of to get that damn stud out! Grinding, drilling, torching, you name it... Any suggestions? ??? :-\

What does the other side look like? I'd imagine it would have been welded on both sides of the pressed steel frame section.

Ill get some pics tonight... its welded on the other side, but only on the outside of the bushing.... I'm so frustrated right now its not even funny...

get a bigger bit. since you have already sculpted out the sides of it, you might as well just bore the whole damn thing out and re weld some plate sides in, then clean it up with a die grinder. then apply a new stud through the frame. the only thing im worrying about NOW is not the bolt, but the integrity of the frame. might wanna have your shop weld this puppy up.

Yeah,
I'm gonna machine a plate for the back side to strengthen it all back up... I'll probably just machine a new bushing as well... It's amazing how fast projects can go downhill in a hurry.... :(

JUST A THOUGHT… TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK… I STICK WITH THE PLATE ON THE BACKSIDE IDEA… I MAKE A NEW SHOCK BUSHING, SHOVE THE BOLT THROUGH THE PLATE THROUGH THE BUSHING… WELD THE BUSHING TO THE PLATE, WELD THE PLATE TO THE BACK SIDE, THEN A BEAD OF WELD AROUND THE BUSHING ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE FRAME…. SOUND STRONG ENOUGH?

btw, if you ever need to know the wieght of a bike just look on the vin tag.
well, if you get it properly welded and PERFECTLY aligned with the other side, i think it will work, seeing how it more than likely wont break as long as you dont do a horse shit job of welding like i do. the last thing is dont use any cheap shit galvanized steel bolts for a stud. look into getting some better quality stuff... cold rolled steel or hardened steel... but on the other hand it might be too brittle...

any one else have a take on this?

tHE WELDING SHOULDN'T BE A PROBLEM... i PERSONALLY KNOW SHIT ABOUT WELDING, BUT MY POPS WILL BE TAKING CARE OF IT FOR ME.... He's a welder by trade with over 30 yrs of experience... He'll be down the last weekend of February to give me a hand, thank god.... My only other saving grace is he's got the exact same frame sitting on the shelf in his shop if I did screw this up too badly... :)

Has anybody dealt with tthese guys before? they're prices seem extraordinarily cheap... Like the complete engine gasket set for 52 bucks, or clip on handle bars for 35...

Those rearsets are fucking AWESOME bro! Do I see a Mich golden Light in your Avatar? Good beer fo sho

Hi Kodiak, nice looking project you got there. Looks pretty clean to start with so it shouldn't be to hard. Cut down seat, flat black paint with some sharp decals or pinstripes, and a set of clubman bars and you could be back on the road for about $100. However you do it, give a thought to fixing up the 185 just like the 400. You and your ole lady would look kool stylin' on matching bikes. Good luck...... Dewey.
