Ok so I am checking out the builds over on NGWclub.com and came across this. I am impressed. If I had the ability the 79 would be going this route in a heartbeat.
Talk about taking a pile of shit and turning it into something. I think he said he paid something like $230 for that thing and look where its heading. From the throttle linkage, oil bag, front end swap, mono shock yada, yada yada I'm not sure which is my favorite part. I agree with ya maritime, Dude has some skill!
That was pure sex better than sex. Thank you for posting!
Yep you are correct Sebatron. I had to go back and check and he actually made an aux fuel tank out of the old propane tank and not and oil bag like I thought.
Anyhow, Did anyone check out his lift? looks like the base is from the bottom of a barber's chair. Great idea!
Ya most likely that tank...i didnt even look at it long enough to notice it there. I would do something cool in aluminum that is only slightly shaped like a tank, if i was him and didnt need a tank in the traditional spot at at all. I know it is hiding somethin though - battery and electrics maybe?
KRB definatley had some mad skill going on on that build and your right the lift is the base of a barbers chair.

He didn't like the shape of the stock false tank and cut the bottom out of a real tank to make his shelter.
On early 'Wings the normal "tank" is just a faux cover, or shelter that covers the air filter and electricals, (CDI ignitors, turn signal flasher, rectifier, etc.) and as was stated the actual gas tank is under the seat, behind the engine and ahead of the rear wheel. you access the fill neck by opening a door on the top of the shelter.
On KRB's build he is using that spun aluminum tank ahead of the mono shock to hold his fuel.
To give you a better idea of what all KRB has done. Here is what is housed under the shelter on my '81 when I tore it down.
And here you can see the top of the tank... just behind the air filter. Man was she grungy
these bikes are heavy I know but his is bascially just a motor wheels and looks like good suspension, it will move. That would/will be one fun bike to ride. The torque out of these things is addictive, i slow down on mine just so I can twist the throttle and take off again ;D and they actually corner half decent stock but I bet his will be better.
yep i am in love! that intake set up is just wicked! those suckers are heavy that must be one bad ass mono shock on there, the inverted forks and what appear to be XS650 wheels! just awesome!!!! hydrolic clutch, braided lines all around, what looks to be a R1 or R6 master (maybe even GSXR)
and those meat eater tires... going to be a wicked build, can not wait to see what is planned for that seat pan
You guys are killin me with these cool GLs dammit! I got rid of an almost running 77 for $400 cause I didnt want to go through the hassle of getting a title... Now Im kickin myself. This thing is awesome. Its like the big farmboy cousin to all those BMW bobs your seein nowadays! Not quite as flashy as there german cousin, but theyre big, theyre strong, and theyll kick ass all day long! ha ha ha This bike is mean. Im a small guy so it would be a handful, but fuck it, Id rock it all day.
Did I mention that I love this bike. Maybe one of my favorites... ever. Its like some sort of post apocalyptic death machine. I generally shy away from flat black, but a nice combo of brushed alum (like the new fuel tank), satin black, gloss black, and some subtle red pinstriping to outline the shapes of the bike and it would be perfect.
Maritime is correct. when I was 16 my girlfriend's father had a full dresser. The girl and I spent two summers riding that thing everywhere. Thing was super easy to ride but thank god I never dropped it. I don't know how I would have ever picked it up :.
