Pinch off another loaf

Looks a little better with the belt covers polished? Valve covers tomorrow.

I'm not going to attempt any repair on the paint. Need to move on to other tasks. If it were a true restoration, show bike, or such I'd take it back to bare metal and spray. I don't want to invest more into it than I can expect to sell it for.

Looks a bit better with all of the covers polished, I think. They really do clean up nice!

You doing anything to protect those? I'm polishing mine this winter and I have shark hide to put on them. I've done them once before and got 2 days, rode in the rain and they looked like shit from then on as the mothers wax I used didn't do anything to protect them. Shark hide comes highly recommended and is the only reason I will do the work to polish those covers again.

The Hunley is now three years past polishing and still looks good although I'll probably hit them again before the Spring shows. I rode her in the rain once back from a show, and she has sat through four downpours at shows. Really, no protection at all. This bike is gone as soon as I find a buyer after June. Just built for the club challenge and I'll give any prospective buyer a list of things to watch for.

Just to make me feel better about it, I set the carb rack down on it. There is a polished oil filter can for it, too. That will go on after the frame is on it (hopefully next week).

Nice. I should say the rain was for 8+ hours of riding about 450 miles and I couldnt wipe the bike down until days later and it riined the polish job.

Maritime, you might be interested in this. I discovered that Honda ran one alternator phase up to the right controls connector, through a jumper, and back. That's ~2 meters wire and 2 extra connectors! Why? Because for Euro spec models they used that phase to power headlights. Just put tge jumper in for US/CA models. I bypassed that on this bike by just pulling tge appropriate connector from the 8 pin and making up a new phase lead with a new connector to insert in its place. BTW, this is only on the '78s and '79s (so I'll be modifying my other two bikes when electrical work is needed).

I've gone through ~80% of the harness so far. When that task is complete, the frame goes back on the engine, and the swing arm gets remounted.

I completely rewired my GL when it got smashed by the deer and don't think I have that issue anymore but I'll check it out just in case. I used the Spark Moto FB-11 fuse block and send all the power to it, then out to the various accessories light lights, signals etc. I left ign alone though I think? Been a bit so I'll check it out when I finally get to working on her, hopefully this weekend. Weathers warming up and I need to do 2-3 full days work to just be ridable this season.

Today had a two-hour window for painting, and I took advantage of it by painting the air filter housing, tripple trees, kickstand, and tail light housing. Still so much more to do, but it looks like a week or two before another opportunity.

I won't be able to paint here for 2 more months. Sucks, it's been in the 40's here and super nice, tomorrow 8-12" of fucking snow followed by freezing rain and ice pellets

Reached the milestone of putting the frame back on the motor. Things might move faster now, but still held up by weather for painting. Was snowing this morning, but at 36F just keeping everything wet.

Ha we got a foot yesterday, driveway's a mess because it was snow/rain/snow so there is a nice layer of cement in the middle of the 2 layers of snow. Engine looks good in the frame.

Hit the magic temperature with low humidity (for about three hours), so I got some paint on parts. Not all, but enough that I can make some progress later this week!

Tank in, front brake brackets on, some controls mounted. Synthetic ATF in forks. Finding which box I put things away in is taking time. Upper front engine mount goes on next, then some wiring snaked through an the shelter frame mounted. Need to get aluminum crush washers to hook up the brakes.
