EDIT!!:: The checklist/packet you need can be found here: http://www.in.gov/bmv/files/Out_of_State_Title_Transfer_Packet.pdf AND you still need DOC#37964
Oh, and I got my title yesterday for the 1978 Kawasaki kz650 I posted on like page 489 or so.... I'm in Indiana like I said and bought the bike without a title and applied for a title in my name.

Ive been having a bitch of a time at the branches recently. By law they are no longer allowed to to bill of sale titles anymore, you have to send it downtown now and they haven't been as lenient as the branches use to be. I am in the middle of a battle over a title now and its not going so well.
They can do a bill of sale but it is a pain in the ass. see below.

Keith, got my title!!
For everyone that wants to know. In Indiana you can get a title for a bike that you buy without one... It is practically the SAME process as before except now YOU have to fill out all the forms instead of the local BMV doing it electronically in the branch based on what you tell them.... The procedure is the SAME as I have posted on here in a thread http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=49207.msg547650#msg547650
The difference is now YOU have to fill out all of the 8 page packet and send it to Indy for them to process. If you are doing it from a bill of sale you have to write a letter, make a copy of it, send it CERTIFIED mail to the previous owner, they have to reject it and it gets sent back to you, YOU HAVE TO KEEP IT SEALED, then mail the copy you originally wrote with the SEALED envelope to the BMV with the 8 page packet.
OR you can do it WITHOUT a bill of sale and explain your situation on Indiana BMV form # 37964 that you bought it from someone without a bill of sale from someone who bought it without a bill of sale and there is no record of the registered owner... This is the way I went with it. I did NOT have to supply the copy of letter, sealed envelope, or bill of sale with the packet.
IMO this way is actually easier. I don't have to go to the BMV and I print the forms off from home and mail them in. I paid $15.00 for my title and it came in about 2 weeks... Send me a PM if you need help with anything.
There IS a loophole for EVERYTHING, you just have to find it. Generally no one will help you or know how.. I'm the test dummy and I have done all the guess work for you.. Now it's up to you to fill out the paperwork.
