This is lovely...happily ride itThats good, honestly anyone who cuts up or heavily mods a XS1 or even 2 is crazy! those bikes are just sooo nice stock. There are many yamaha xs650 standards or specials that if they are rough then ok. But man a XS1 is just just sweet with those chrome side covers and stuff.View attachment 234133

Have heard that ex-Harley engineers said the engine they started with in these was an absolute masterpiece, but they were forced to add gobs of weight and bling, among other tuning and performance changes, to make it “feel” like a Harley. Makes a guy wonder what could’ve been…

Brah, how are you going to fit that in the Jeep?So this followed me home today.

Hard to imagine 4 valves whizzing away at some insane RPM in that space.Since I'll never own an original "1HX" Yamaha FZ250, I figured I could at least get a small piece of one. So I ordered this, and it arrived this morning. I have a collection of other pistons I keep on a shelf in my cubicle at work, and this will be a great addition. I should have put a dime in the photo for scale; it's remarkably tiny for a 4-valve chamber.

I don't recall why, but we had the frame from one of these sitting around at work. I went to move it one day and was shocked at how heavy it was. I've lugged around a few bare Ducati frames and a couple Japanese bike frames, and this thing was massive in comparison.Have heard that ex-Harley engineers said the engine they started with in these was an absolute masterpiece, but they were forced to add gobs of weight and bling, among other tuning and performance changes, to make it “feel” like a Harley. That is pretty cool. Why is the top of the piston not smooth, is it too help mix fuel and air, or does it keep the piston cooler?Hard to imagine 4 valves whizzing away at some insane RPM in that space.
Here's a penny for scale. It has a 48mm bore, less than 2 inches across.Hard to imagine 4 valves whizzing away at some insane RPM in that space.
