Project GOLDWING

Hey Joe, this color combo rocks! the speaker install is nice and clean. Using the LEDs is a great way to cut amps to give to the stereo. What is the tube with all the holes? I have a GL I am going to be doing in the future and I don't think I have seen a peice on it that looks like that?

Can't wait to see it all together.

Cheers,

on this bike it had strait pipes... the looked lame... so my brother being 10x's as anal about detail as i am... got a piece of exhaust pipe... graphed out his drill holes and drilled that sucker out on the press. while he did that i added lolly pops to the stock pipe set up and laid high temp paint on them...
so now the pipes and headers are all gloss black... i then took the pipe covers (he made 2) and powdered those for him, we made spacers and these will rivit over the pipe in back under the bags... will do well to fatten up the look of the exhaust, the lolly pop will do wonders in tuning, and the green will just look sick!

using LEDS huh... we are putting 3800 LEDS on this bike... ya alot! this sucker will be insane... st paddys day is going to be the unvail to our riding buddies, the green wing will come out and party!

Wow, I don't know how I missed this thread all the way to this point? I usually kept up with what you have going on Joe! Anyway, this is going to be another cool build! The colors kind of remind me of Grave Digger! I liked the red better or the army green you spoke of in the begining, but hey, its his scoot!

I have an idea for this build that I think is pretty killer, you should make a custom switch pannel on the fairing that has all fighter plane style toggle switches, the ones with the red safty cover you have to lift before switching! A small detail, but I think it will add to the cool factor.

Like this:
ToggleSwitch.jpg

ha ha ha get out of our heads!!!! we are making a pannel! he actually got all the switchs last night, 15 green led lit toggles. we are going to use dimond plate and cut that to match where the stock stereo was... we are going to coat that in the green and before we add the clear, i am going to have some lables made in black to match the paint... each toggle will be labled and then lay the clear. he wanted that jet fighter plane effect as well! ha ha ha
each toggle will do something different, one will turn on an off the salt spreader LED fog lights (stupid bright), one will turn on and off the rear speaker, one will turn on the leds around the motor, the toher on the front wheel, another rear leds, and other the amp... you get the idea, each one will do something small so that he can have a ton of htem on there...
that is awesome that you said this he just showed me this idea last night and we planned it all out!

Man that thing is crying out for some gold leaf lettering/graphics! You know, old school fire truck/rat rod style!

ha ha ha... we talked about that... but no go... i called the leafing (i love to do that) i am doing this style paint on my cb350 bobber tank cause hwe have so much left over my tank is getting gold leafing... so his stuff cant!
we are going to do abrasion blasting on the metal in so that when the dorment powder is laid on it you can see it... my brother is not into bling like that, he is big on subtle accents... i know htat is hard to belive wiht the size of the bike and the color choices... but he is

I noticed the homemade straight pipes so that will dress them up a lot. Should look good. The fighter plane switch panel is awsome, and it fits as the H - 4 motors on theses things with the shaft drive kind of sound like a turbine when you wind it up. I really like riding the GL, it has gobs of torque and the weight is all down low. That being said, mine is N'ked, vs. the insane clothes your brother's is going to be wearing.

can't wait to see this one finished/

ya but i think he has the builder bug now... we have built several bikes togheter (his chop, his sporty, and my dads herritage) but those have always been big $$$ builds. now that he sees what you can do for little $$$$ and some creative work... he is hooked! i think he wants to score another one and cafe it out... bastard! should be cool to see what he comes up with, he and i are kind of polar opposites on builds and styles... so combined we can do some cool stuff... my fav part aside from working with my brother is how fast we work together... it would completely blow your mind what we can get done working together... best part is HE LOVES to wire.. ah ha ha ha OK all yours bro... you wire away!

AH and there are a lot of wires on these things. Plus all the new wiring you are adding. Thank god the Harness on the 79 I scored is in great shape! I can do wiring but don;t really care for it. I wish I had a buddy or brother to build with, It is hard sometimes not having anyone to bounce ideas off of. I have a cousin I used to wrench with but he lives too far away these days. Keep up the great work. going to the X-Mass party for work tonight. Gonna Drink a dozen beers or soo. got to love free booze.

Cheers,

ha ha ha ha that is awesome! mine is tonight as well. we rented cruise lines for all you can drink and eat on lake michigan... should be a blast! hotel after the cruise hurt $$$$ but that is alot cheaper than a DUI or worse! no drunk driving for this guy!

Good call on the hotel Joe, No drunk driving! 8)

Whish everyone had this good of sence! I was that guy in my younger days, live and learn! Lucky I did not learn the hard way, I just wisened up with age! ;D

it needs clip-on's, rearsets and a set of Dunstall exhausts, oh, wait, that was 1979 ;D

Hey Joe, Check out Randaaks cycle (google it not sure of the spelling) He has heeps of knowledge on the Gl1000/1100's and the flooding is common, bad, but easy to fix. If you don't fix it it can hydro lock you horizontal cyclinder and bend rods when you try to start it. It is just an adjustment thing though if I remember correctly. Oh and you probably know this but it also shits your oil all up. It is really important to always shut off the petcock on the gl's because you never know when they are actually flooding the cylinders as fuel doesn't piss out onto anything for you to notice. Hit the starter with a full cylinder that doesn't drain because it is tilted over and bang, bent rod, shit load of work.

lights look good, I think you are the first person I have seen take these 70's-80's bags and make them look good. Everytime I see one of these old girls on the road all bagged up and full of reflectors I cry a little inside at what a nice bike they look when n'ked. You might actually make this work! You may have me re-bagging mine. I still won't put the fairing back on though ;D

THANKS MAN!!!! that is awesome info!!! did not know that, thank you so much

I didn't either till I needed help on something and found his site. World of info on there and the guy knows those old wings. There is a couple other sites but I have those on my home computer favorites. If I can get on there I will put up the links. Naked Wings is one. AMke sure you google naked Goldwings or some weird shit will come up! The floodign thing is more critical on the H - 4 because the cylinders don't drain and if they fill because the intake valve is open, the next stroke is compression and the valves close and if your rings are even close to good you will be in a world of bent rod and that sucks. It is one of the few things that can hurt these tanks. Just remember to shut off the petcock at every stop.

Cheers,

been doing a ton of wiring work on the plastics and bags, as well as molding in LED's
but last night got more torn down for powder
