Project GOLDWING

Looks great! Very 'Grateful Dead' -ish. And yes, crazy how fast this thing is running along to the road...definitely screaming to be ridden.

Your bro had so better go cruising around on Halloween with one of these on:

Hahaha, how cool would that be?

Cheers man - boingk

Looks good man! I am amazed at the speed at which you crank these suckers out!

I have to ask, though, is that a Scotch-Lok wire connector in your harness pic? Not telling you what to do, but in my experience those are about the worst electrical connection you can make. I might just be seeing it wrong, too.

Again, though, really nice work!

everything will get soldered in, there are just so so so many wires when we where trailing them and figuring out what needs to be combined it was easier to just use that, it will all be done right. this bike will be made to ride! big time... do not want anything to test

Cool. I was just checking since I have seen many an electrical problem go wrong with those darn things!

Waiting to see the end product, for sure!

that is one massive machine.. i would drop it on myself every time i stopped. its like building 3 bikes at once. well done sir.

ok... well we fired her up last night... started up no worries... however, gas, coming out of the shifter side exhaust pipe, i mean blowing back out of the exhaust pipe and even leaking from the under side of the pipe... it is like it is not getting burned... any tips on this? the carbs where sent to some honda guy by my brother and he went through and rebuilt them and cleaned them, left out about 4 or 5 bolts for the carbs so i had to go though other carbs i had to find stuff like the float bowl screws! anyway... any tips on this?

Seems one or both cylinders on that side are not getting fire, if it is both you may want to check the coil for those cylinders. I would start by checking to see if the plug is firing (both) if neither of them are, it sounds like a coil problem....does one coil control both cylinders on one side? I am not sure about the wings but a CB750, the coil operates one cylinder on the left and one on the right while the other coil does the same. Wings may have a different firing order for all I know (since they are completely different engines...COMPLETELY!) and one coil may control both left cylinders while the other may control the right.

Hope that helps joe, I am sure some of the wing guys here know what cylinders each coil controls. HoosierDaddy may know!

i just got a call from my brother, he was up all night long freaking out about this... at around 4 am, he went out and did a "stupid check" just basics like the plug wires, plugs, etc... he said that he pushed on the plug wires (that i put on i may add) and one of them went "click" i told him to use a long nose, crimp that sucker a bit so it is tight around the plug cause i am guessing that it is popping off.. that would make a ton of sence to why gas was blowing out! ahh man i always look for the hardest thing rather than the obvious! i hope that was it... I agree twisted.. has to be fire! it is getting gas... i thought it may have been a fowled plug... i have read so much on how these motors can hydro lock, i just freaked a bit. this is his first vintage build, and of couse he picks a wing to do an di have never wrenched on one... just want it to go smooth so that he will be pumped to help me on some of the other builds i do!

That sucks! Sorry I didn't see this sooner.
Coils do fire opposite sides.
Fireing order is 1-3-2-4
One coil fires 1-2 and the other 3-4
The coil fires both of it's plugs at the same time, but only one of the pair is on it's compression stroke.
You can swap the coils and see if the problem follows the coil.
But if this Carb guy sent them back minus 5 screws, what the fuck did he forget to do on the inside?!?
Make sure fuel is not puddleing in the plenum. Thats a sure sign a float is stuck.
Good luck to ya, hope it was just the plug wire not snapped on. Let me or the guys at NGWclub know if you need any more.

The older GL carbs can be tricky...+1 to the previous post, but also, while you've got it apart, check the rubber seals on the plenum and the fuel valve. Remember, this thing has a fuel pump, and a vacuum valve at the plenum. Lot going on atop that motor. Also, when you're done, sniff the sump, and if it smells of gas, change the oil before you spin it over, and the first time you crank it, do it with the kill switch OFF and the plugs REMOVED to avoid a really costly OOPS!

ill get some up a bit later today. My brothers buddy had a huge party so we got hammered and did not get many pics of the bike... then yesterday i worked on some paint work for a customer alld ay

how about an update!

well she is about ready to hit the road... she fired up and runs, we still need to dial in her carbs and sync them, as well as set the valves, the belts are all timed and adjusted. then just final wiring, switch pannel, wire in the amps for the stereo, and she is good to go!

here are some pics

I normally hate the look of the old vetter stuff, but man you updated it well. It really looks like a complete package, not aftermarket crap all thrown together. I like the windscreen shape, looks mean. Good job.

Dude...don't you know that Goldwings are not supposed to be cool?
...you've re-defined the bike. Cool.
