Thanks Docta!
Lots done today guys.
Let's just say this. I rolled her into the shop tonight when I got done...yes that's right, the final assembly has begun!
Took the motor outside today and did the ol' "put the motor on pillows and such and drop the frame on" trick. Works like a charm. i did this after wrapping the frame rails in pipe insulation to protect the paint from my possible f-ups. i also taped up the bottom of the motor a bit to prevent the same.
All of the motor mounting bolts were replaced with stainless versions (I hate old rusty bolts) except for the main long bolt on the bottom. I may buy a piece of stainless stock and thread it to replace this as well.
Then I thoroughly greased all of my new tapered stem bearings and put the forks on. Grade 8 hardware for the shock bolts out back, and bam! she rolls!
After that I decided to put the tail section on to see what she looks like. Tail light finally came in from Taillight King and it's perfect! Looks like a bullet, and I love it.
There were some problems with the first paint on my tank, so I sanded and repainted it (trust me I was bitching!). I took BCBarker's advice and continued the stripe on the side down to the bottom of the tank. Looks MUCH better to me now. The frame will flow right into the tank color. It's a good thing I bought 2 cans of the 2K clear!!! So I shot the clear just as I was leaving the shop tonight to cure while I am at work tomorrow. Just a tip, if you're ever painting raw fiberglass, use an adhesion promoter. I know some have had good results without it, but my tank was gelcoat, and that's where the problems came from. That and my pinstripes got eaten by the clear coat. So I bought the actual 3M stripes from my paint supplier, and they work so much better. Whatever adhesive they have on them is meant to be painted over, so it saves lots of headaches. No worries though, you live and learn.
So on to the show. Here are the progress pics. She is looking DAMNED mean!!! here ya go!
Right after I put her on her legs for the first time:
Back in the shop:
And the finished tail with tail light! Woot! (note this isn't bolted down in the pics, just sat on. That's why it looks a little askew.
)
Well, on to the next one on Friday. She's coming together fast! I ordered a set of Dyna coils today for it, and next comes the wiring! ChrisF is working dilligently on my exhaust and it looks amazing so far! I'll leave it up to him to post progress pics if he so chooses (hint hint Chris!) But it might actually make it to completion before years end knock on wood!
Hope you guys like it so far, and lemme know whatcha think! 8) 8)
