Haha! Chris I wear a Texas star belt buckle that my granddad gave me every day!!! In fact there is one tattooed on my elbow! I love you mid south boys too dude!
And yeah, he black is just classic. Looks very simple and elegant. That's probably where it will end up just because I know it will work and look awesome. I really appreciate the compliments man. It means a lot considering his bike will be hauling around your logo...your approval is important on that front!!! Glad you like it brother!
Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360
I agree with Barker on the badges looking great on a bobber. I love the star idea though! that fits the style you have created to a tee. I'd run with that.
Those badges make me think of this guy driving a '78 Fire bird. I'm sorry man I grew up in the 80's and it was a traumatic time. :'(
Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360
Hahahaha!!!!
I did too diesel, I know what you mean. Keep a look out for a comparable badge t the star man. That was my original thought, but deciphering eBay is a biotch when it comes to sifting through auctions. Maybe if I get a crew of dudes on top of it the search will become broadened. I'm still working it all out in my head, and that's dangerous! If. Could ask one more favor or the Photoshop guys, could you all do me a yellow, and a yellow and black stripe? That's just my last rule in/out. I appreciate you guys. Now go find some badges!!!
Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360
I will keep my eyes peeled for you. I have a set of the honda wings badges if you want them. round, white on black prolly 2" diameter. They're off a '69 450 I think.
Crescentson just posted a killer hornet logo he made for me on my thread check it out it looks great!!
Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360
I should clarify, I really like this badge:
Push comes to shove, you could always contact Kit at DropBars and ask him to machine a badge for you. That would be expensive, though, because he doesn't do shit work.
Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360
This is silly, but I'm supposed to be leaving to go out and work on MY bike, but instead I'm looking this up for YOUR bike. This place is in Australia, but I'm sure there are companies here that will do this stuff for you. http://www.crusaderindustries.com.au/metal.php
I'm sure someone on here could design a sweet badge then send it in somewhere and have them make it. In fact I really want to do this now for my next bike...
Alright, enough time thinking about YOUR bike and off to get mine running for the first time in a year and a half.
Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360
Man you guys are great. I know what you mean docta! I can't tell you how many times I have looked up from DTT and seen that it was late in the day. Then I'm like "damn, I need to get busy!" I appreciate that link too man. Thanks for the warm centiments!
Chris I thought that's the badge you meant. I hate to pay setup fees on a custom part when there are so many things (like custom exhaust ) that take precedence. That's why I'm looking at my vintage options. I found some badges I like and we'll see where they go. I appreciate the info.
And diesel, your logos look great!
I know the right combo is out there...it will be found.
If it's anything like a cbr monoshock, there's a wire 'circlip' under the top collar that sits in a slight groove around the shock body that locks the collar in place. The principle's the same with them all I guess. You have to compress the spring heaps to be able to remove the clip, then it just comes apart. That spring is under enormous pressure compared to a twin-shock unit, and it bent my home-made spring compressor I'd been using for years. So keep your fingers out of harms way
That's the clip far left, and you can just make out the groove on the boby, below the dot, below the sticker. The rest just slips over the body. In the right order
It's fairly straight forward if you're done other shocks, just multiply the tension by about 10!
Hell dude, you've made a swing arm! This should be a doodle for ya ;D
Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360
Haha you're right bikeboy, I'm just overthinking this whole thing. It seems that everything ducati has special tools to use. I have a bearing press that I'll try to use on this sucker. I'll see what happens. 10 tons should be enough !
I appreciate the tip man. I really haven't tried too hard with this thing yet, it keeps getting put on the backburner due to other pressing issues. Hell right now I'm stuck on tank badges!!!

no sweat. You're pretty safe asking technical questions, but when you put aesthetic issues out there, you'll get a different response from each post ;D
Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360
You're right ian. It's really down to gut instinct on what feels right. I do like the opinions though. Sometimes it's good to get an outside perspective so you don't end up with something that makes people say "damn that's ugly!"
I have a very weird sense if taste, so it comes off skewed at times. Simply put you guys are asset, and it's appreciated. 8)
Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360
Thanks Joe! I know they aren't a hit with everybody, but the emblems are growing on me. it is a little modern, but vintage at the same time. If i could find a star emblem like the one on page 18 or similar that I liked, then I would consider it, but I just can't find one anywhere that suits the build. I'm pinstriping as we speak. I chose the black on pewter. it just looks too classic to not use. Very very clean. I'll post pics in a bit. Thanks again for the props and encouragement brother.
Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360
Thanks for the props fellas.
Not a big update, but I took a few hours and striped the tank today. It's simple and elegant. I think it looks incredible and cant wait to see it with the clear.
I was going to spray clear today, but the humidity is way too high since it's been raining. Forecast looks great for tomorrow though, so I'll be hitting it hard then. I finished bodywork on the fenders today, and they're ready for paint too. So tomorrow is paint day....again!
I'll probably start reassembling the frame as well. The frame and swingarm are painted, they just have to be picked up. We're all going out for drinks tonight for Halloween, so I didn't go get it, but I'm picking it up first thing tomorrow. Stoked!
So here's some pics of the striping. Couldn't have made this decision as easily without all of you guys' help. You rock!
The striping! These are 1/8" black pinstripes. Not too much, just enough.:
Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360
Thanks Diesel, and I am too...just something catches me about them. And I don't think here was ever any color but black for this...it just draws the dark frame and wheels into the skins. Makes the bike flow. I think it looks great! Thanks for the props brother!
