I have to agree with Joe... the long lamp up front would nicely flow with the long swing-arm out back. You def. have my vote!
;D

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Thanks for all of the input fellas. It's awesome to hear your ideas.

Today the coils came in. I did a lot of stuff that doesn't really make good pics, but hey it has to be done. Installed clutch cable and routed it to the handle. I also put the new brake shoes in the front wheels. Installed the front fender. The coils were a headache because I didn't realize how fat those suckers are! about twice the diameter of the stockers. I fooled around with modifying the condenser side bracket for one side of the bike by drilling and tapping it to fit the new coil. The other side had to have some custom aluminum brackets made. I'm gonna epoxy them all black tomorrow. I had to drill the front mounting hole about 1" lower than stock on the frame to make them fit under the tank. It looks good now that it's done, and the freshly drilled hole will give a good grounding point on the frame since the stock ones were powdered over. I built a tag bracket at my buddy's shop today also since he has a press break and a plasma cutter 8). It's drying on the paint rack right now...I'll post pics of it when I get it off tomorrow. And tomorrow begins the wiring. I have to build a dash still for my indicator lights as discussed before, and now because of the relocated coils I'm going to also put the ignition key switch in it also. So lots to do even though it is getting closer...or so I tell myself!

I also polished the valve breather and the points cover.

Mouting...still needs paint and stainless hardware, but mockup is done!

Still pretty invisible from the side, but peek out just enough to let you know there's something brewing in there!:

Two more off days...two more long work days! Stay tuned!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Oh, I forgot about the front fender. Will be cool to see it on the bike. That stainless hardware does look nice. I really need to upgrade to stainless bolts. It's a little close to Christmas now so maybe after the first of the year.
Coils are bad ass. I didn't realize those were any fatter than stock. They look good under there. You can see just enough. Where are you planning to mount the tags? I hope you don't have to run one of those car size tags like you see in some states.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Hey thanks brother!

The tag mount is a simple axle mount like yours kind of. And it's small. Looks to be the same size as the WV tags.

I meant to snap pics of the front fender but dinner was calling. And the bot sets are cheap. I think they are only $30. Maybe $40 at the most. And yeah, I didn't realize the coils were so big either, but hey they pack like 5 times the punch so it's cool!

I promise to take more pics tomorrow.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

What?? you stopped to eat? how dare you. Just kidding bro hahahha.
Tag should look good on the axle. Are you going to use the lightnbolts?
Stainless bolts are on my wish list for sure.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Yep, light bolts for sure. LED...they shouldn't draw much current for sure. Little battery= as few accessories as possible.

Is that what you use?

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

I was using something simular. It was a single light/ bolt from a newer bike. Chrome and had a real nice hood on it. in order to use it I had to drill the hole in the tag a little bigger but I only had to use one. Got it off ebay for about $7. If you want it its yours. I'll look back through my cafe photos and see if I've got a shot of it. The one I'm using now is in the stop light.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Oh very awesome! That will work dude! I think it's time I owe you one! Whaddaya need? LoL! :D

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

I'll send it out. If you don't use it just keep it. And man I think I still have some ground to make up. I should be asking you what you need! But since you asked, I do need another project though ;D hahahha

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

You and me both brother. I got an offer on a Harley shovelhead the other day...my wife would kill me!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Your are right my friend, but then again she probably doesn't remember what you look like ;D
He man are you going to run the radio shack rectifier. I think you can pick on up for something like 4 bucks Here: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062584&cp=

Or, this is where I got mine. $20 and you jsut plug it in. The best thing about them they are tiny: http://oregonmotorcycleparts.com/rectifiers.html

While I'm at it here is a place for jets http://jetsrus.com/

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

wow....i fell off the face of the planet for a couple days...looking good. definately rock that headlight bucket you found with the guage in it, itll make the bike look longer and sleeker than it already does, also i LOVE the idea of painting the shock black and spring white itll definately tie the whole thing together, i didnt hate the way it looked yellow and silver so i didnt really see a point in changing it till you came up with a good color combo and that is the winner. keep up the good work.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Thanks force! She's in full swing now. And yea, the Duc bucket is on its way as we speak. UPS already sent a tracking number.

So lots of stuff today. Lots and lots.

Wiring is a bitch. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Actually, wiring isn't so bad, it's the soldering and heat shrinking and then hiding the wires that gets tedious. Takes forever!!!

tag mount is painted and installed.

Went to the local radioshak and bought my headlight switch, rectifiers, and LED idiot lights. I also built my dash that holds the ignition key and all of the above today. I ended up building it out of lexan and then shooting it with adhesive promoter, then gloss black. Should look great. I couldnt' find any small pieces of 1/8" aluminum plate local, only HUGE stuff, so this is the route I went. Should be plenty strong and plenty cool

Got the fuse block wired in. Also got in my blue streak plug wires today. Cut them to fit and attached the ends. They're now ready to go. Extended the points leads w/ soldered connections and heat shrink on the whole set. Looks good.

new tappet covers came in and they look great. They really set the motor off.

I also installed and adjusted the clutch cable and the front brake arms and cables today as well. Then shot the front brake stabilizer in epoxy black.

Battery is installed and the leads are done for them. I'm running a 4 fuse block so I can keep things nice and tidy. Also installed a bracket under the seat to hold the rec/reg.

More tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get that wiring done. That's the main goal for tomorrow.

On a side note. Does anyone know where the neutral light indicator wires in on the 360? Is it the small spring thing under the engine sprocket cover? I have read the clymer but it doesn't say very much wiring wise except that the wire code is green with a red stripe. I'm gonna need to know so I can wire up the neutral light on the dash.

Anyway, here's some progress pics:

tag mount...press breaks and plasmas are awesome. One day when I grow up I'll buy my own so I don't have to borrow a buddy's shop to use them!!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Looking great... and I hate you. I mean in a kind friendly sort of way. I spent every moment I could working on mine today and only got a few bits ready for paint.

Still looking amazing though, so keep it up!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Haha, I busted my ass today man, I know the feeling. It was one of those "in the zone" days I guess...I have to finish that spaghetti tomorrow! I hate that part!

And thanks for the compliments brother!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

As usual. great work bro.

I love this build and the old Harley is going to be sick.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

on what wires are you running fuses? Ive seen everything from no fuses, to one fuse, to a gazillion. Im a complete wiring newb, so I have no clue where I should put fuses and why.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

absolutely beautiful!!

hurry up and finish the bike so that people will stop telling me that the bike that im using as my computers background doesnt have any carbs or pipes ;)

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Thanks brother! I appreciate it man!

And yeah, I hope so. I love Ironheads. They're just plain classic. Kinda where I'm headed with her....but the cafe comes first!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Haha! I'm working as hard as I can brother! I'm thinking one month tops. Still got a lot of nitpicky stuff to do. And I have to wait for the exhaust. But it won't be long. She'll be on the road by Christmas for sure.

And Boom, I am going to run the main wire to the block, and then one for the ignition switch which will be main power to the coils. Then the headlights will have another just because I am going to install an HID kit. then there are two spare just in case of some upgrade I may do down the road. You really only need one from the battery to the coils. When you get ready to do your wiring, PM me an e-mail addy, and I will send over a barebones wiring diagram. It eliminates a bunch of the useless crap.

Thanks for the props brothas!
