Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

I like the leather. While I personally wouldn't use it, it's not my bike! It does seem to fit on Gretta just fine though.

Just thought of it - Gretta's wearing leather! Had no idea she was that kind of girl...... :D

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

Man I would have never guessed that the leather would be so unpopular!

It's most definitely staying. You can tell a lot about people by their taste in bikes. What does that say about me?! Haha!

I personally love it. It gives it a decidedly old look. Almost steampunkish. The frame will reflect that when it's done. Think durable patina.

Come on fellas, open your mind a little bit to what a custom bike is! If we all pump out the same carbon copy bike, what's the fun in that?!

I have no doubt about my motives or skills, I have a feeling you'll come around to it upon completion.

Thanks for your honesty.

The choice on the leather color was dictated by the fact that the tank strap was givento me by my father. It was his belt and I wanted to use it...it even has speed holes in it! It was meant for gretta.

That's cool. The main thing is you have a theme and you're sticking to it. On that note, I was wondering if you were considering some of this stuff:

I think it suits what you're doing here to a T.

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

I don't think the leather's unpopular, more of a shock factor at first.

We already know that you can churn out a bad azz cycle, so we have faith in you Kiley!

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

Sir,

Gretta is looking fucking beautiful. I dig the leather. I fucking love the tank bag. The coil mounts are insane. I really could go on, man.

Keep doing what you do, because it is definitely working.

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

Not so much on the leather, either, but BIG props for what is inspiring it. I really admire that!

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

It has taken me a while to weigh in on the changes Kiley, but I think that is a good sign. The raw earthen qualities of the leather I like, and I knew immediately that it was Gretta's and by association your style refined. There was immediate reaction, with a heaviness to it like sampling a vintage mountain wine, but after taking time to reflect and savor it the individual flavors and undertones begin to meld, and it makes sense.

I like that about your art, that which I've seen displayed around here. There is an instantaneous connection and appeal, but then you have to look harder to determine exactly why. Complex and layered but simple effective and understated. In all well done sir.

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

She looks beautiful my friend! Keep on keeping on...

...And I'll thumbs up what the hell he said! (Very well said Cresent. Somehow I knew you could put it to words!!)

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

Im doing leatherwork on mine right now as well. It suits you man! Love the roughness to it.

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

Wow.

Between you, Troy and a few others I'm feeling pretty uncreative.....maybe i should go buy a Saturn and work at a Kinkos.
HA!

Nice work man, as long as it turns your crank that's all that matters!

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

That seat is the cats meow. I seriously love it!

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

Thanks fellas. It's looking lovingly vintage now....I put a good coat of Neatsfoot oil on it and it darkened it up quite a bit and adds protection. Much nicer.

A day of blasting tomorrow. Powder in the evening on the frame. Then the tedious reassembly. Pretty pumped for getting her back together.

They're sitting on the bench as we speak Ian! Funny, we have the same taste. I ordered those from Lowbrow months ago along with matching 16G wire!

HA!

Dude, they would totally fire you from Kinko's. And your Saturn would end up turning steampunk. Steampunk Saturns are just retarded.

Stick with bikes dude, you make the rest of us look cool by gracing us with your innovation brother!

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

Ahh the misunderstood Artiste. Why does that sound familiar? Oh yeah, I live that life too. ;D

For me the hardest part of making art (i'm not talking about my bike builds here, that is merely student work on my part at this point) The hardest part is knowing when you're finished and its time to move on to a new piece. Having said that I love the metal work you are doing and I think that that adds to Gretta. I also like the leather work but I think it detracts from Gretta. If it were up to me I would have you do a bobber project next and that leather would look tits on it!! Big ole ape hangers, the whole nine!

Its funny, you are such lightning rod here, you aren't afraid to try anything and show us your work and you are open to suggestion and ctiticism and handle all that really well. I also love that folks here feel like they really can express their honest opinion it gives everyone a sense of ownership with your project. I've seen you make mistakes (design wise) and listen to what people have to say and then come out the other end with a great solution that is really all your own. Really hard to do and big props to you for being able to pull it all off!!

In the end, like you said, if you love it that is all that really matters.

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

I celebrate my country's birthday and 3 pages go by. Sheesh.

I'm not even going to try to be as poetic as Daniel, but I for one am really digging what you are doing to Gretta. I've always enjoyed doing and watching boundaries being pushed, and the resulting conversations that happen because of it.

What happens out of builds and developments like your bike makes us fence sitters, hop down, pick up a tool and get to work on the things we know we should have been doing, but have been putting it off because of conventional thinking.

It may not be to everyone's taste, but if we don't have one bite, how will we know if we like it or not. That's what great about being different, is exposing friends and peers to other experiences.

Would love to see that bike in person down there and if the cash wasn't already laid out for a cross country family vacation I'd be heading on down for the DTT party. Oh well, pics will have to do.

Great work though man. I'm looking forward to see the end.

I bought some of that for my XS project.
It doesn't quite 'fit' my 360 projects
