Starting with this.

and hopefully turn into something like this.

Currently the motor is in 1000 pieces so i'll be doing that most of the winter.

The frame I want to do in blue and the body work in white/blue

The inspiration for colors is the new daytona 675 triumph at blackfoot.

Re: Project UberNaked RD400 Brat Bike

Digging the color scheme. I love love love those 675's in that blue and white. I hope to have one of those in a little while when i pay off my car loan. Your bike is going to be one good looking bike if everything works out and it comes out looking similar to the example one. Good luck!

Re: Project UberNaked RD400 Brat Bike

Right on DB. Get to it. Ill be watching, even though youre a jerk.

Re: Project UberNaked RD400 Brat Bike

Aren't the RD400 Daytona's pretty much expected to be restored--even in the condition of your bike?

I too built an RD400 that you might find useful: http://www.motofiaccone.com/moto/43-rd400-cafe-racer

Mine was a little nicer when I started, but not by much. I got robbed on the price, but simple economics prevailed.

Re: Project UberNaked RD400 Brat Bike

I already have one that is restored. Fuck conformity.

Re: Project UberNaked RD400 Brat Bike

So I stripped some bits down last nite. Starting with a fresh slate.

Re: Project UberNaked RD400 Brat Bike

That ignition is a dead giveaway. What country are you in?

Re: Project UberNaked RD400 Brat Bike

That would explain the ignition. AFAIK, the US model had points and those odd exhaust manifolds. Australia and Europe got the carryover E electronic ignition and wasn't sure what the Canuks got. Did you get the 250 version as well, or just 400?

Nothing explains the Aussie or Kiwi sheep farmer avatar though. ::)

Re: Project UberNaked RD400 Brat Bike

I'm diggin the style and it looks like some Wrench Monkey inspiration going on. Can't wait to see more. Oh and by the way it's Candida. :)

Re: Project UberNaked RD400 Brat Bike

Patience. Winter is upon me. I have a young family. I have to "steal" time. Usually when momma and baby go to bed. I drink beer, listen to old motley crue and work.

I think I have to get this frame sandblasted.

Calgary,

We've had a shit summer and i'm sure we'll have a shit winter. But a smiles does come to my face whever Toronto gets piles of snow.

Re: Project UberNaked RD400 Brat Bike

Ok so the whole bike is stripped. Going to sand blast next saturday morning. I tried a small polish of the lip and it's turning out nice. I'll probably polish the lip first, then mask off and spray bomb.

What color for the wheels? Blue to match the frame or leave black?

Re: Project UberNaked RD400 Brat Bike

That blue might look good on the wheels but I would only leave the lip polished, not the spoke edges imho. That or paint them to match the engine, which I assume semi-gloss or low-gloss black. I had a 350 w/ 400 wheels and I painted them white (hey, it was in style at the time) except the lip and it looked sharp. Painted over the polished edges on the spokes as it looked too busy to me. You could alternately attempt to copy the triumph wheel look if you're not too attached to the polished lip. And you're a very careful tire-changer. I love RD's and the wrenchmonkees and I'll be watching this one. Wtf were they thinking with those pseudo expansion chambers though? A little too form-over-function for my tastes.

Re: Project UberNaked RD400 Brat Bike

Yah, i'm not going to follow theirs completely.

I'll be getting chambers from motocarrera hopefully. Maybe even a polished swing arm. See how much money I have. Wife want another baby starting in December. It may take me a few years to complete this.

Re: Project UberNaked RD400 Brat Bike

Frame i've decided to be Ford Twilight Blue. I had an old 5.0 mustang that color and it was nice.

Here's a sample.
