Had to do some refurb work on the caliper, strip, clean powdercoat etc, new seals, blank off the unused ports as its of an ABS VFR800 or something???

No ABS module on a 1976 Yamaha

The unused port on the caliper is for the linked brakes on the VFR. The rear brake actuates the center pistons on the front caliper, so you are only using the outer pistons.

Man that disk turned out nice! I have some EBC rotors that have very crusty bobbins I would like to replace, where did you source those stainless replacements?

Not if you cross drill the pistons when they are stripped........think I posted some details on the cross drilling in my previous build thread.....

Ah, didn't see anything about cross drilling new fluid ports. I just know what the center port is because my dad has a vfr. Makes sense to add a couple new fluid passages to bring those pistons into action without the linked set up.

from my previous build...I drilled the center piston to connect to the port that's there from Honda connecting the outer pistons. The center piston bore sits above the plane of the other two, and is as you correctly stated separately actuated. At least now all 3 will be operated, although the center providing slightly less force to its reduced diameter..

Time to screw some of them freshly coated covers on.....

Plain old socket heads can be a bit "boring" so a bit of detail on the heads just to clean them up a bit.

Whilst I was bolting on the covers the painter came round to lay out the pinstripes over the base coat and fix the decals.......he'd worked hard on it, but saying that Id worked hard on his bits in a skills exchange.................Ive included a pic of the original tank before...........

Back to that steering head and triple clamp set up. I decided to strip the original grey powdercoat and use some of the new black Id got. I pre-baked the casting for an hour to release the gasses and was much happier with the finish.....

Time to detail the engine side covers. Plan was to remove the kickstart, blank it and them some other random holes with were not needed or just had some tatty covers fitted.

Had to weld up the generator cover due to a crack in it before I painted it.

Got the front caliper mounted with some cross drilled screw heads for lock-wire when it comes to securing.

Next up was the rear chain adjusters. wanted to keep it clean and simple. Dont really like the standard wrap around type that slips over the axle then pulls off the swing arm, so I just reused the existing stop blocks off the original setup and modified to suit.

Made up some new nuts from stainless for various spindles etc.

Finished up back in May by putting the wheels back together with new spokes, bearings, tyres, tubes and seals etc.

Onto the handlebars.........

Bars I ordered were smaller diameter than the Renthal clamps that came with the bike, so knocked up some split spacers.

Front end suspension for a bit of TLC next. The fork stanchions, although not leaking were fairly pitted and looking a bit tired. Complete strip don required, new parts ordered. Alloy bits powdercoated and rebuilt. When I was stripping down I found a couple of roughly sawn "preload" spacers made out of pipe inside, plus a lot of debris

New progressive springs sorted that problem out, and nice CNC brace all the way from Thailand finished it off. Need to sort out some dust covers and machine some adapter as way of fixing them in place.
