When the paint is still wet and something lands on it, insect usually, i’ve had success with picking off the object with the sticky side of masking tape
i roll the tape tightly around a finger, sticky side out, and this allows the object to be cleanly pulled off the surface by the sticky tape
I discovered mine long after it was too late for the masking tape trick, unfortunately.
Coaxed him out with some 2000 grit, but under the right light it is a bit noticeable now. At least the surface is flat, so hopefully once a few layers of clear are on it will be fine.
It's one of those things that bothers you because you know it's there even though everyone else would never notice
Looks good Charlie. Got my side covers and fenders painted and cleared. I've heard that 2k can sometimes come out a bit spitty but up until today I'd never had that problem. Made sure the can was warm and all that but definitely didn't come out 100%. I'm more than happy with it though, think they'll look ok once they're mounted. Couldn't stop myself demasking some of the stainless grill either.
That's the main reason I haven't tried a satin or flat finish. I don't trust my abilities to lay a nice smooth clear coat so have to rely on the fact I can bail myself out by wet-sanding and polishing the glossy clear.

Ha, it's a good reason! Satin (and matte) clear is balls-to-the-wall for sure. Not a lot you can do with any imperfections, at least not as far as I know.
Give it 48 houra to cure. 1500 is a good start if peely if not 2000. Light sanding then go to polishing. To be honest if you spray it right it wont need more than a wax/polish to shine
I’ve decided not to 2k clearcoat Scruffy’s panales at this stage.
i’m not happy with the tank and feel i should really strip it back to bare metal and replace the old filler, and do a better job on smoothing everything out.
it looks ok as it is to ride about and guage what‘s needed in ‘Phase 2 - Scruffy goes Posh’ later in the year

I hear ya but unless you're an experienced autobody guy it's never going to be perfect. Gotta draw a line somewhere.
At least thata ther way I look at it. I've never filled something in and stood back and said "that's perfect now". Lol
Be interesting if you report on the wear and tear progress of the paint without clear!
I'm going to clear mine sometime this weekend. Gotta get that done and fill it with gas asap. The baffle in the tank has already got a bit of rust on it. Foggingnwith the wd40 just isnt enough
Threw on the spraymax 2k clear tonight when it cooled off.
Not good! Got too much orange peel! The damn can doesnt give instructions at all!!!!
I thought maybe i went too thick per coat, but the area around tank opening got quite a bit coverage too and turned out much better!
Then I thought, maybe I held it too close? Hmm I dunno, maybe. But I didn't get a single run anywhere *shrug*
My process was medium coats with 6 mins in between. I think I did 4 coats and the can sputtered a bit (not quite empty so not sure why!) But I called it quits at 4 to avoid any splatter.
Should I have done it like paint? Dust coat, then medium coat?
Of course this is fresh out of the can. We'll see what it looks like in a day or two.
Also, I picked up a "tack cloth" at the store and it's great. It's only a buck or two but really helps get all lint and dust off. It picked up some metallic flakes too, which I assume is just some overspray that dried loose on top. Got the tank looking real smooth before the clear.
Last but not least, I avoided bugs this time and didnt wanna press my luck so that's another reason I called it quits at 4 coats.
