So you bought a CM400 / CB400T, now what...(50+ Build Links!)

Re: So you bought a CM400 / CB400T, now what...(49+ Build Links!)

If your spark is ok, and the problem is with one cylinder at idle, then I would look at your idle jets in the carb first. Heck a complete carb clean never hurts anything, and there are lots of decent tutorials on youtube if you've never done it before. Also check for carb needle diaphragm damage.

Cut those fins! :)
Cut them off and re-locate the shock mounts. Like I did on my bike.

Re: So you bought a CM400 / CB400T, now what...(49+ Build Links!)

Has anyone ever figured out the jet sizes for running a 2-1 exhaust and pod filters? having some running issues and I've seen a few CB400T's with that setup. I've got a 78 CB400t II that I'm finishing up a cafe build on. Just about 80% done with it!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I wish there was a list or table like I have seen for stem and axle bearings and fork sizes etc.

Were you being sarcastic here? If not (and provided you haven't already become aware), there's a handy reference of some of your requested info:

Axles: http://scandalon.com/2009/06/motorcycle-front-axle-diameter-chart/

Forks: http://www.allballsracing.com/index.php/forkconvertion

If I'm late to the game and/or being a dumbass (which is likely), please ignore.

ive just been using a caliper when i want to find out what size things are. LOL these lists still will be useful to me.

Valve Cover Bolt Seals?

Does anyone know if the CB650-750 valve Cover Bolt Seals fit the CM400? I can't find any for the 400, but there are lots available for other bikes.

If not, any idea where I can get some?

Since the engine is still scavenging (as if the H-pipe were still installed), wouldn't jetting be the same (assuming you're still running the stock Keihins)?

did some work on the seat, just gotta throw a layer of bondo and smooth it out then paint!... and wait another 2 weeks for my tail light to come in...

Well with the addition of fresh c's "Ugly Duckling" CM400T Build link on page 1, ther are now 50 + links.

Many nice bikes being built from these. with many new approaches.

Thought I would share since Everyone is on about the CB's and CM's. This is my CM that I just sold. I had the CM, a 78 CB400 Cafe cafe project and a 70 cb350, and one had to go. Sadly it was the CM. Oh well, the CB350 will be fun....

Looks great LC!! These frames really do bobber quite well.

Hey guys, been working on my carbs and got my jets mixed up. Is the main the larger one (stock 105) or the secondary the larger one???

I've removed the exhaust crossover (still running mufflers behind the headers) and installed pods, have any of you guys really dialed config in? I'm headed to the hardware shop tomorrow to grab some brass washers to shim the needles a bit.

Sudco has a gigantic selection of jet needles. Is it possible that we should be looking to replace the needle with a different length/taper instead of shimming them? I've read it's not ideal to shim the needles on these as it restricts movement.

Thanks,
Devon

Where did you get the hard tail struts (or whatever they should accurately be called?) Did you just have some bar stock cut and bored? I'd like to do something like this with my bike but I'm worried about safety (structurally).

, has anyone been able to run these bikes with stock carbs and no airbox?

If you have, I'm very curious to know your setup? Ie. which filters, jets, restriction, needle shimming, etc.

I'm using the UNI pod filters and they are just not workin for me. Letting in wayyyy too much air. I've Been experimenting with air restriction within these pods and shimming the needles but I'm still not getting ANY response from 1/4-3-4 throttle.

I've heard the emgo pods restrict more air than the stock airbox, I don't know if thats bull€#!| or not.

Alternatively, have any of you fitted mikunis to it? I'm ready to take the plunge but have no idea where to start in terms of jetting.

Hey, I just thought to ask, what's everybody doing for cables after the switch to lower bars? I know of a couple that made custom ones, but it would be nice if someone with acres to similar bikes with shorter cables had come up with an easy, off-the-shelf setup since most of us are new to this whole thing. I'm going to order custom Motion Pros if nothing else.

Just this question alone has made me fall in love with this thread.

Got too excited to see if anyone answers...

I have a cm400e in toronto ontario. Let me know if there is anyone else around. I am DYING to find the RIGHT side panel and not pay 200 on ebay for it.

Hi all, new to this site, but heres a link to my build via hondatwins.

http://www.hondatwins.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7893

it's currently sitting in the driveway awaiting parts. dead CDI on a CB400A means i'm SOL. they are nearly impossible to find and when you do, odds are they are near death anyways.

So instead, i've opted to make a swap to CB400T parts. unfortunately that means having to replace the stator and flywheel to work with the new CDI because a CDI from a 400T does not work with a 400A.

will update with the results of the swap.

Here is what mine looks like. Starter as a bobber ther went to a cafe/brat because the roads are to unconfortable around here. Still need to make a seat.

Where do you have the battery located? Like the new seat pan, how do you intend to finish it?
