The Guitar and Musik Thread

If your not playing gigs with it, a Ampeg BA115 is a decent studio amp or lower volume playing situations. But it has a XLR out for PA. I say for low volume, because I've always used a 450 watt Ampeg SVTPro3 with multiple different cabinets depending on which style of music I was playing. The BA115 is 100 watts and here in the states is about $350. Don't really know your price range or what you need it for, but this is a good amp with good tone.

By the way, what kind of Yamaha bass have you got? I used to have a BB1600 with a reversed P-style pickup. Oh how I miss that bass. Was definitely my favorite.

Picked up a early 90's Jackson 100% AMERICAN MADE, hand made, 50 watt all tube twin the other day. Sounds so F'n good! We play a real Fu Machu / Clutch/ The Sword and obviousely Sabath inspired kinda stoner rock. This thing has sooo much over drive, I play with the gain on 4!!! Thats Taylor behind the drums. He kills it, I'm tell'n ya!

And grabbed these 2 Morley pedals today. 1 is a Wah/boost and the other is a Volume/phaser... MMmmmmmm.... Stoner-liciouse
I only use analog effects. Lose too much warmth through digital shit.

Also picked this up not too long ago. And it's working out great to record jams and practices...

And ya, Ampeg (anything) is a good choice...

You guys all have me long out classed, but I'm just getting into playing guitar again after having not played since I was a teen.

Still have my 1980's Vantage Flying V here, made in the Matsumoko factory in Japan. Picked up a Gretsch 5120 with filtertron pup's installed, a Compton bridge and Sperzel locking tuners. Would like a '72 reissue Fender Thinline, and am hunting one down.

Picked up a little Fender Champ 600 reissue to play quietly with in the house - can't disturb the women-folk here.

Rad! Thats good stuff Tim! What ver it takes to stay inspired man... Class doesnt have much to do with it.

Love that Jackson bro. I've got an old handwired pommy Roost amp that really fires up that stoner stuff too. The thing is I can't run it past two or you can't hear anything else. And I'm talking about it drowning out a Markbass head through a 4x10 cab.

Awesome Louie. That's a nice find. I like your influences too. Post some of those jams fella.

I played in Touring/semi-touring bands for years. Gave it up when it almost cost me my career. I have since sold almost every piece of equipment I had.

Here are some pics of things that have come to pass:
Ampeg SVT-350 head with an Ampeg iso-vent cabinet. The Iso-Vent has 2-10's and 2-15's. The 15's are facing each other. They are wired out of phase, so one pushes while the other pulls.

Reverend Rumblefish J and J bass.

Danolectro Longhorn Bass. Sure was purrdy, but sounded like a rubber band over a drum.

That makes me sad Justin... sniffle, sniffle....

Career?

I've taken several breaks from music. For all the wrong reasons every time... It'll not happen again. I'm currently just getting back to gig'ing shape/play-ability.

What is that 1st bass?

That is a Reverend Rumblefish. Beautiful bass.

I called the company, talked directly to the owner. They built it to order.

I should not have sold that bass.

I figured I'd post a couple of pics of one of my favorite guitars that I've built.

I toured for years myself. Finally I got sick of being poor (haha). Turned my career into recording engineering and custom music composition. Life on the road was a blast though. MANY good memories.

I love those basses. I used to be endorsed by Ernie Ball in the 90's. Got instruments at 60% off. Strings at 90% off. Man those were the days. I'd change strings like every third gig.

I always used Flatwounds. My heavy hands would break the E string on a regular basis. I had a growing collection of DAG strings shoved in my case.

Ugh, now I am completely depressed after I just realized we didn't hear any picking at the Barber GTG.

I was seriously looking forward to that.

+1 on flat wound strings. I love them...especially on my fretless.

I can't stand them on bass guitar but it's kinda my only choice when playing upright.

So here's the ol' faithful I was playing through for many years. It's a handwired Roost amp made in the UK in the late 70's. She's bloody powerful and apparently modelled on the Hiwatt setup with some mods. She's got a nice warm tone but she really needs a good service and a proper tidy up as she's a little scratchy at times in some of the pots, inputs, you name it. Lately she'd started dropping out entirely at low volume and would only fire up again if I raised the volume and punched a chord. I think she needs to be driven a lot harder than I can at home so at the moment she's in the cupboard under a blanket. The twin cab is loaded with Peavey Black widows. I think the cab is possibly almost as old as the Roost as my aunty gave it to me saying that she used to use it years ago and no longer needs it.

And a vid of how it sounds with an old setup I used to use:

So I ended up buying an 80's solid state Marshall reverb twin, which I know aren't everyone's cup o' tea, but I love the way this thing reacts on the note. The pedals are an Electro Harmonix smallstone, Sansamp Tri Ac (which is just shit hot), Cry Baby Wah, A george Dennis something-or-other wah, and my favourite on the left is the Earthquaker Devices Disaster Transport. That pedal is just off tap. I should really make a vid off all the shit that thing can do.

I've got five guitars at the moment, there's the 80's yamaha from that vid above plus the Ovation idea (the only gear I've ever bought new, bought at 45% off), the red one is a Godin SDXT, and the teal one is my "daily", a Godin SD 24 fret. I love that guitar and have been angling to pick up another one the same and a maple fretboard example too, but the other half won't have a bar of it right now. I've also got an old shitty bass (a washburn I think it was) which has been round a mates with my Mark Bass head and celestion 4x10 cab for over a year. He's a good egg and my old bass player so not too fussed, but I do miss laying down some four string lines from time to time.

I also snaffled an old Wurlitzer off a mate a while back. He didn't have the space for it so it was a give away. Needs a bit of a tune and service and a new reed or two but otherwise sounds great. The amp underneath is some old junker but it sounds great witha bit of drive running through it all dirty. It'd be a great bit of kit to record some really nasty riffs with.

I usually record any ideas I have on video which is easier to look back on later than trying to figure out from audio. I've put a few up on youtube too, but as I said, they're usually raw ideas. This vid is the SD through the disaster transport with Marshall O/D. No videos of the Ovation driven through the sansamp into the Marshall as yet, but I really should as it sounds bloody awesome.
