The SkyTeam 'Ace' Resource

Iridium over a standard NGK will have little to nothing to with on the Ace performance, the more costly iridium plug will outlast the standard plug and what it was designed for. More and more vehicles demand 100K service intervals on long last parts... the day of the 3K service interval is long gone in the automotive world.

Buy a pair of NGK's and watch them for color to keep air/fuel mixture in tune rather than the fancy ones... we need to fiddle with the things as much as ride, that's half the fun! I just wish I passed the weigh in to ride one of these little speedsters :-\

attack your ports... one word ....wow. bike geared way up, 17/34 still pulls of line ok. 4500 at most at 60kph. no idea what top speed is cause I'm not going to test till i can get to try legally.. runway possibly

Hey guys, was in Sydney working for a month and came home to a bike that would barely start. Have taken off the air filter and carb and cleaned both last night (seemed fairly clean although the main jet may have had a little gunk in it, put them back on the bike and started her up. She seems to idle ok, but as soon as I twist the throttIe, revs drop really low and the bike almost cuts out. Anyone got any ideas as to what this could be? I'd love to fix it myself if possibl, but since this is my first bike, I have no real idea where to start

Check bit main goes into, needle jet. Could also have junk in it. Sounds like pilot may be ok as it idles. As you come on needle it is leaning out

thanks orrible, will check when I get home. Also will check the fuel lines. Any chance it could be stale fuel? Will drain if you think it's a good idea

it could be some water in the petrol from condensation, if you are on reserve then switch to main and make sure you have a full tank, pull the fuel hose off and see you have flow from the tap, then drain the fuel bowl on the carb and give her a try. if you can get enough power to get it out on the road and ride it a bit to blow the cobwebs out that is often all it needs.
bit of water here and a low battery there can add up to a bike that wont run properly.
thats where i would be starting before i pulled the carb apart.

The water idea is possible . Drain tank if it is and wash out with metholated spirit. Will absorb water and then evaporate leaving tank dry. Moisture will cause anything I said with carby. Even a very sealed tank can cause similar problems but I doubt that is what it is. Freshen fuel good idea

Hey Sprocket, tried to do what you said, had not been letting the bike run much before as throttle was killing the engine.

Tonight I tried to take it around the block a few times, idle revs are very high despite me adjusting the idle screw, as if the throttle was stuck on full! although I'm reasonably convinced it's not as I can still twist the throttIe and something happens (even if it is the engine cutting out). I kicked it up a gear or two and the speed climbs, got to 50km without touching the throttle!

This same high idle was present before I removed, cleaned and replaced the carburettor and as stated, the bike was running fine before I returned, so I'm rather dumbstruck!

PS. Petcock and fuel line are unobstructed. I tested as suggested

PPS. Mechanic time I think...

its got me stumped, it sounds like something with the fuel system
water or varnish build up.
i dont know what else to suggest mate.

No worries. Thanks to all who tried to help! But I think it's time a pro looked at this one. Case closed. Will let you all know what turns up for curiosities sake

Could the throttle cable be caught up under the tank (or elsewhere) and not letting the slide bottom out?

Or something similar happening with the choke cable?

Crazy
