Turning out some pretty sick powder workt his week!

You telling me you can powder an already powdered part? i thought it needed to be blasted clean due to the electromagnetic aspect. I ask this because i have a Dresda swinger already coated but i forgot to remove some tabs beforehand. Now you telling me i can sendit to the coater to do only the parts that need touch-up?

Is this a common way and so, just as good or is it kinda hack-jobbish?

Not to jack the thread but ,yes and no. I can do up to 10 coats, you might not. Depends on how much you understand the art of powder coating and the quality of the equipment you are using. Unless the coater you took it to is the original coater he will probably not coat over someone else's coating. Without knowing the chemical makeup of the existing powder we don't know if what is going over is compatible or not. I also don't know what prep was done on the original and if I coat over it and the base coat fails up the road who do you think is going to get blamed for the crappy work, me or the original coater. I'm not taking the chance that you will blame the OC. In your case of cutting off tabs it is just as easy for me to strip the part and start over than try and coat just areas of it, though it is possible.

the only time we will coat over coating is if we have recently laid what is going to be top coated. if not we always will strip and start over, masking, finger wiping, fading, and plugging techniques are all different ways of laying powder in multi layers. We specialize in custom coatings so you will see some of our wheels for example have up to 4 colors on them. We do take in parts from all over the world on a daily basis if you would like any work done please let me know.

BLSully thanks for the before pic! we completely forgot to snap one! Bike looks great man! can not wait to see a picture of 2 in the sun, that flake clear is going to just POP!

As much as i love your work, i do not love giving my salary to UPS ;)
Sending a frame back and forth will be the same amount or even more than you will quote me for.
So, thanks, but i'm not that rich ;)

I'm not able to powder myself but am currently working with a new guy for powder, and he's better, cleaner and cheaper than my previous coater. I like to talk on a pro level with suppliers and therefor i want to know how stuff works. Thanks for the info, as always :)

btw that tank fix is realy nice.

Hey Joe,
Whats the general wisdom on multiple coats of powder?
My gun isn't very high voltage so I dont get a very thick coating, is a second coat an option?

COMPLETLEY UNDERSTAND! One thing i will say is on your frame, be sure they plug before blasting as well as coating... will help save the threads. we typically will retap all our customer stuff for them, but i know that is not a very common practice... either way i am sure you can find a quality coater by you and if we can help answer any questions please just let me know

just about done with the z1000 build

most hobby guns will work fine for 1-2 coat application, you may need to adjust your air flow and increase your KV, if you still have trouble hot flock round 125* to help out

FO SHOW

HAHA that made me laugh. Thanks for the info man!
ps bike looks like its a movie prop or sum? You should go to a props agency with it. Easy money ;)

we do, however for most applications (quads and bikes) we use a high temp powder, then go though an in use cure cycle and have great great results!

it is a present for the customers mother, it was his mothers mom's when she was a kid and he found it while cleaning out a shed. she has her entire kitchen done in Rachel Eay orange... so he asked us to get close to that so she can once again use it in her kitchen. she picks it up in about 2 hours with him, stoked to see the reaction
