I'm pretty new around here & spent awhile reading thru this last night. It's cool to see all the different things everyone does.
I am a computer geek that ended up as a network administrator / programmer for a commercial fire & security business. I worked for the same company for 15 years then a friend & I started our own company in early 2012. We mostly provide high end IP video & access control solutions to commercial properties. It can be fun however I would rather own an Alpaca farm.
im a union electrician working for a contractor at the big university hospital in portland. every day is different. right now we are working on a new pneumatic tube system that covers the entire campus.
Retired Union Ironworker Local 416 (Rodbusters) 15 years , Auto bike n boat detailer 4 ever and self employed power washing buisiness the last 20 years.... I make stuff clean!
Jaguar technician at a Jag/Land Rover dealership. Pretty cool gig, provided I don't have to deal with the clients. Some of the older Jaguar people are pretty cool though.
I work for Sony. My title is "Project Facilitator and Black Belt". I use whatever statistical analysis tools are necessary to drive process improvements in a manufacturing environment.
A six sigma belt is something that's on my "To-get" list for sure. I plan on buying an actual karate belt to strut around the office in once I get the certification.

It's not as funny as you think... It's also quite offensive to actual black belts. (Martial arts) There's always one in the crowd.
In any case, I've found the "lean" tools to be just as useful as the full toolset. When you get to experimental designs it gets really interesting. I'm in manufacturing so I get to use them all the time but it's surprising to me how often I think about using the tools in every day life. A simple run chart of gas mileage is a great indicator of maintenance needs.
