What's going on now over at Ichiban Moto ?

Re: Ichiban Moto : Yamaha 500 cafe racer build

Mmmm ..... Think you should move the battery to the front fender that way if you need to you can help jump start a semi or 747 !

Re: Ichiban Moto : Yamaha 500 cafe racer build

Really enjoying these videos.

150 psi should be more than adequate for some sand blasting.

Replacing the airbox with a tool box should increase the airflow into the carbs for more power.

Keep the updates coming

Unnotify button at the bottom of the page... just to the right of the reply button.

But why would you want to?!

I wanted to fire the bike up this week, but the parts carb I bought has not arrived.....

Soooo.... I spent some time on other projects over the past few days. Now that all of the electrical parts are installed, I fabricated a new mounting location for the battery. I also wanted some practical storage for a few tools, spark plugs, fuel line, etc... and came up with some under seat space to stash stuff.

I put a video up on youtube:

Good news ! The parts carb should be here later this week !

Re: Ichiban Moto : Yamaha 500 cafe racer build

Why don't you run it on one cylinder then swap carb to the other side to make sure both are working?
Leave plug out of the cylinder without carb so it's easier to turn over

Re: Ichiban Moto : Yamaha 500 cafe racer build

I want to take a proper test ride to check out the result of my suspension and brake performance enhancements. I need both cylinders running so I can test the handling into corners, and accelerating out of them at very high speed. I will wait for the parts carb.

Ichiban, you owe me a keyboard...I just spit out my coffee on it laughing so hard...

You are priceless!!!

Re: Ichiban Moto : Yamaha 500 cafe racer build

You know... you could always take a look at engine swaps if you need to.

The original café racer (the Triton) was a Norton frame with a Triumph engine. You would definitely earn a lot of street cred for doing something like that. Maybe put a GSX1300R engine into the Yamaha frame? You might have to cut some of the tubes, but then you could use the engine as a stressed member, instead.

I made a DIY blasting gun and blasting cabinet so I can zap rust and paint! This will really speed up the work on some of these nasty bits and parts I'm working on :D

I put a video up on youtube for you:

Re: Ichiban Moto : Yamaha 500 cafe racer build

brilliant itchy,... i here ground-up,pulverised, old brake shoe frictions makes excellent air blasting media.............
when are you gonna install the powerbands ?
what color ? code ? :-X

Re: Ichiban Moto : Yamaha 500 cafe racer build

This is such a great build, thanks for sharing your work and your extensive knowledge of how to make a Bad- Ass Cafe. I hope to incorporate many of your ideas into the building of my bikes.

I do have one suggestion. You can replace your gear shift lever and brake lever with Vicegrips. Just clamp them onto those thingies that stick out of the bottom of the engine. This would free up some space in your tool box so you could store lots of blue tape or whatever. I also plan to use a pair in place of clip ons, just clamp them on to the fork tubes. I think MV Agusta did that on their track bikes.

Looking forward to the next installation, that carb part should arrive any day now, right?

Re: Ichiban Moto : Yamaha 500 cafe racer build

The funny thing is, I saw a video of someone that low sided and broke their clutch lever. Guy clamped a visegrip on the remaining nub and got himself home hahaha ;D

Re: Ichiban Moto : Yamaha 500 cafe racer build

Vice grips have a 101 uses, I used one for steering wheel once when buddies thought it would funny to take mine off my truck one day at high school and take it home with them.

They about shit their shorts when I showed up at their house to collect it, in said truck. ;) ;D

You are so awesome. "Assembly tape" and when you threw the cover back into the box after you were done blasting it, priceless.
