Winter project CB550

Oh, I thought you guys were talking about using wider rims to accept a 120 tire. Don't get me wrong, my favorite look is a spoke wheel with modern rotors and USD forks (and mono rear end). As I've gotten further into this game, I've become really cost conscious.

I hear that. Started this because someone gave me the fork and the bike was $260 but then I buy this part that part and before I know it I've spent way more than I planned...

Heh,heh, yep you tend to spend way more than budget for. I think the look will be worth it though. If you're trying to keep the traditional or classic cafe look but just tweaking it a bit with modern components, then it's worth the effort.

17" Harley rim to fit a 120 tire like the gsxr had.

Got the rim back from powder today and I'm having a heck of a time lacing it. Harder than it looks.

Are you doing the outer spokes first? I found it really frustrating to lace wheels the first few tries, but after you get the hang of it, you'd be surprised how fast you can do it. I learned that the holes in the rim show you the angle at which a spoke will go. Then, you just skip three holes and put another in. You'll see the angle of the hole line up. The inner spokes take longer and you have to undo an outer spoke to get an inner spoke through. Hope that makes sense. Ha!

The problem is it seams that the holes don't want to line up. I'm trying to do all inner spokes and no outers. That maybe part if my issue.

My bad. I think you're right. Start with the inner spokes. Unfortunately, with a hub that doesn't have the wear marks from the original spokes, you don't have a guide. How far have you gotten?

Bike's coming along nicely.
There have been a few late nights dedicated to this project.

Cool hub too. Did you have extras made up?

Here's a little update

Almost done tacking up the rear end before final welding. Hubs and rims are being laced. Once hub is laced and everything has been tested I will have more coming in.

No rebuild just ride. I'm going to put the honda badges back but that's about it. Bought it to track hopefully
