XS850 Cafe Close to Paint Time

Re: XS850 - Beatrix (Possible Paint Scheme? Thoughts?)

Not much love, eh?
Oh well. I dont care. Ima do it anyways. 8)

Glass'd last night. Curing as we speak. Gotta change some wheel bearings on the girl's car today, so probably only pics of progress this evening.
Looking for some round (preferably mini) short stock turn sigs for the rear. Not completely happy with the front ones. Any suggestions??

Re: XS850 - Beatrix (Possible Paint Scheme? Thoughts?)

I like it... colors really flow well.. especially with that brown seat pad

Re: XS850 - Beatrix (Possible Paint Scheme? Thoughts?)

looks good!! i prefer a higher cowl lol but to each their own... it flows nicely, whats that color called? and how did you get the gauges painted? mask and spray or some other fun trick

Re: XS850 - Beatrix (Possible Paint Scheme? Thoughts?)

I think that the tuning forks would look better at the front end of the tank on the blue.
Seat's a nice shape.

Re: XS850 - Beatrix (Possible Paint Scheme? Thoughts?)

How did you mount the license plate? I have an xj650 with a driveshaft and I am trying to figure out how to mount mine..

Re: XS850 - Beatrix (Possible Paint Scheme? Thoughts?)

ltGeorge: Thanks a bunch, i appreciate the kind words! I like the bigger cowls too, but i really like the flow of this one.

Erskine: I am kinda toying with that placement for the decals on photoshop right now. I do like it a lot, i just want the logo to be more defined. Like with a white background/pinstriped/whatever. and i feel like more white is too much.... idk, def open to your interpretation if you wanna give it a go.

Zero: I hacked up my stock battery box and made a little triangular bracket from my lower shock mount, up to the plate with the light on it, then to the axle. The license plate is attached under the brake light with a small alum bracket on one corner and just bent along the final drive. I can take a close up pic this evening, if you want?

Re: XS850 - Beatrix (Possible Paint Scheme? Thoughts?)

A better pic would be great!

Re: XS850 - Beatrix (Possible Paint Scheme? Thoughts?)

Sorry for the wait! Had lots of car troubles this weekend between the girl and I. Not much done except for some new fuses.
Here is that pic of my light bracket. Not the prettiest, so i flat blacked it to hide it :D It'll work til i figure something else out.

Thanks for the pic. Looks good so far!

Re: XS850 - Beatrix (Possible Paint Scheme? Thoughts?)

I've been neglecting the thread for a while......
cuz ive been riding 8)
I'm at about 90% "finished"
Got a crossbar to weld in under the seat for support/mounting, then clean cream strip and paint the tank.
First decent ride on it last week, no issues except a small small oil leak around the starter. Easy fix tho. Also Picked up a new toy.
Pic fest to follow.
Cheers

And here is my new toy:

It's a 96 Honda CBR600F. Maybe a future streetfighter project? Picked it up for $475 at a local auction! :D
Starts, idles, shifts thru all gears, but as soon as you give it a little more than a little throttle, it stalls out. Baffled the PO but im a more than (over)confident i can figure it out.....with some help.
Maybe the TPS is bad? That's another thread I suppose.

Re: XS850 - Beatrix (Nearly Done!! New Pics, new project)

Nice score!
Make it look like this! (it is also a 96)

Re: XS850 - Beatrix NEW YEAR, NEW BIKE, NEW PICS

So here's the deal:

Last year, shortly after my last post^^
My bro-in-law dropped her, not fatally wounding my precious, but doing some cosmetic damage. Bent bars, dented tank, scraped side cover, etc. Lesson learned: NO ONE rides my bikes. I sold her to my dad, and he tore her down.
He stripped the tank (which now sported a few more dents and dings) painted the wheels all black. Cut off frame a tad shorter, ditched my seat, tried out clubmans, etc. Never had it on the road again since the day i dropped it off. He just didnt have time for it. It layed around in boxes and piles.

While i got used to my new married life (lived in apt. for a while, changed jobs, bought a house, bigggg stuff) I slowly started getting the itch for a project again.
I bought a mint CX500C from a guy at work for 800 bucks. It's just toooooo clean to tear into. So, i texted pops and offered him 5 bills for old beat' back. He gladly agreed and went and bought himself a newer vstar to occupy the space.

3 hours in his garage, and a roll of duct tape later, and i rode her to her new home.....again.

Man, i love this bike.

Here are some pics of where i'm at.
new bars, built a cowl, small battery, bent up tail, more to come. I like where this is going......again.
Enjoy

Re: XS850 - Beatrix NEW YEAR, NEW BIKE, NEW PICS

And here are the pics from last weekend. Fiberglassed a battery box, got my tiny 4cell. Worked a bit more on the cowl. Feast your eyes

Re: XS850 - Beatrix NEW YEAR, NEW BIKE, NEW PICS

Got a little bit done over the long weekend. finished welding in gussets/mounting plates for the cowl and electronics tray. Ordered a crap-ton of LEDs for my custom tail light. Mounted electronics pan. mounted ignition unit, r/r, and battery. Need to find a small, four fuse box to mount back with the battery. one of the PO's just used inline fuse plugs and i'm sick of the mess. Extended a few plugs, strapped on the old seat, and took it for a spin!
Pretty deafening with the exhaust all hacked off. That's the project for this week. Also, need to fiberglass a seat pan.
progress, guys. progress
