XV920 "Short Bus"

In retrospect, putting all of this stuff in a milk crate, uncovered, in a garage full of spiders where I have been cutting wood and metal, was not my best plan.

This is the second wiring harness I have put together; so it's better than the first one, but still leaves a lot to be desired. Time to clean it up.

Got a bunch of wire markers in the mail today from Hot Topic - I'm colorblind, so this will help a great deal upon reassembly...and since I probably won't hold onto this bike forever, it'll also make it easier to sell later on.

And as usual, i have to put in a plug for Del at Vintage Connections for the crimping tool and connectors, which are that rare combo of inexpensive and high quality.

Dreadrock put my new forks in the mail today - I need to clean and possibly paint the engine so I can start reassembling the bike and get to work fitting the front end. Feeling good about having this thing finished and on the road in the spring.

what front end are you swapping in? don't forget you have to modify the lower seat depth with a grinder to get a good fitment.. so maybe don't start putting it back together just yet, works best to get it ground down is by putting the whole frame upside down in the vise.

word. whats the length on those bad boys? only asking cause wes's were so much shorter than mine, really brought the front end close to the ground.

Well, luckily for umbrella manufacturers across the country, the EX500 fork legs are only a little bit shorter than the Virago legs - and the offset from the neck is almost identical. Going to have to put a little bit of work into shaving the upper triple down to eliminate the ignition switch mount (should give me a place to put the tiny speedo), and work out the steering stop.

I will only lose a little bit of trail and it'll bring me closer in line to a street bike vs. the cruiser line...

Suddenly, though, I find that I can't really do much more without getting my wallet out. I need:

- to finish my fake solid rear wheel
- to paint the tank (need paint)
- to make a better license plate/taillight mount
- to clean (got this stuff) and paint (don't got this stuff) the engine
- to put new silencers on the MAC headers I cut off - but they're 1.75" headers so that's easy peasy, just need to watch CL for a while for somebody's takeoffs
- to buy steering bearings
- to buy another LiFePo battery from MOTYdesign to hide under the tank.

I think that will probably add up to about three hundred bucks, maybe a little more...so it'll be slow going from here. Don't touch that dial.

You sure go through a lot of bearings...LOL....

You should look at Honda forks, match the tank... 8)

Waiting to see how it turns out...should be very interesting..Cruiser engine, sporty handling...

I think that with the big pumpkin sticking off the wheel, a side mount plate won't look like an afterthought.

Haven't been over here in a while.

Thanks for the laughs and good ideas yet again!

Good ideas?

1) vintageconnections.com is a source I've been looking for. I'm tired of chopping up old harnesses to steal connectors. Gonna buy a batch.

2) Buy a PW50. No kids...just for me to fcuk around on when I get mad at my big bikes for not cooperating.

You will not regret any money spent at VC, word is bond.

I rode the PW80 around when there were no kids home. It was hilarious.
