All the hydraulics got finished today. Chain and rear setup are all done. If I hooked up fuel, I could ride it at this point even if with an ugly old front tire. I'll get that changed asap. I need to ride it somehow "before" I take it out for it's first track day. I don't want to pay, show up and have issues I didn't account for. A bandit run through the canyon? A dyno? I'll figure something out.

I've fixed, straightened and cleaned up a few fairing brackets. I need to find some alloy tubing or rod and make an upper fairing brace. A local buddy just picked up a tig welder so I'm hoping I can make a few alloy brackets and weld them up at his place. I've got a cardstock template for an alloy dash to hold the tach, temp guage, oil, neutral, and fuel lights. I've deleted everything else.

If you have the means i would take it to a dyno.

I know in Ohio I can insure a vehicle that I don't have titled or registered in my name. If doing a couple bandit runs in the Canyons, may be worth insuring it if you can. I think a cop might be more receptive to "I'm working out a few kinks on my track bike" if you can follow the statement up with "I do have it insured".

Cops here will give a warning for registration and plate issues, but never look past seat belts and insurance.

Just a thought.

I'd really like to get it on a dyno. I've always wanted to get a bike dynoed, but also don't want to waste the time and money if it's not ready for final tuning. The limited adjustability of the carb setup makes me wonder how worth it it'll be. I'm setting aside a little $ at a time for a rack of FCR's. I've talked with @Irk about helping me work up an airbox for them too. I need a pipe one of these days too and those are spendy are harder to find a whole exhaust than it should be. Akropovic seems to be the only company still making a full exhaust for these and the're SS but run over $1000.

I'm leaning towards a bandit run. I have two nephews that are in the county sherriff's dept, not that it's even remotely a get out of jail free card, lol. I could put my other yzf750 plate on it temporarily. I know it wouldn't stand any up close scrutiny but I'm considering it. We have some open runs in the back of the canyon that could let me feel the current tuning out and see where it needs to go.

Technically, I'm insured for anything I drive through USAA though that may have a caveat or two I don't know about. I have a clean BOS on the bike from Matt but I haven't tried to get a title for it. I've considered it but it can take awhile here in New Mexico. Not sure I can insure it without one. I haven't started down that path yet.

Still working on it. A bit more slowly the last few weeks, work has been crazy. I did get an R1 front master to go with the blue dots calipers. I may run the stock setup for a bit since it's all fresh and ready to go and the fork mod to accept the blue dot's will take a minute to do.
I made up a little dash but it was fugly so I'm going to do another attempt. I think it was Doc who said, "if you want it nice, make it twice".
I ordered a neat FZR400 tach instead of the stock setup. I need to find a water temp gauge and then I'll do another small dash to mount it.
I picked up a cheap (Emgo) ignition tether just in case too.

Nice project. I used to own a purple/white FZR600R, the euro version of the first year YZF600, with it's sort of fake USD forks.

Your bike is like the grown up version of it :)

Thanks @briandk ! I loved those. Back in the late 80's I spent some time on a friends FZR600R.

I got some busy time on the bike this weekend. I adjusted and snugged down the carbs and the airbox, flushed the fuel tank and hooked up the electrical, vaccuum, and fuel line to the tank. Some fresh gas and the bike is idling nicely. That got a number of checkboxes out of the way. While it was warm and idling, I tested the clutch in and out of gear and just didn't feel right. So..... I shut it all down and drained the oil and installed a fresh filter. I had already bought a whole new Yamaha OEM clutch so I pulled the cover and the disk stack. This is what I found:

Ugly but an easy fix and I think I caught it in time. I have a new flat tab lock washer already too. I'll finish it up tomorrow.

Fresh clutch, springs and oil done. I rode it under it's own power for the first time today around my neighborhood. It's running pretty well from what I can tell in the first two gears at least, I didn't try to take it out on the public roads (yet?) I have body work and some fab to do for the tach and temp gauge setup but otherwise, brakes and clutch are all new and feel right but need to bed in. So close.... Yippe-Kai-Yay!

Took it out for a longer test run a couple of miles to a gas station. EXUP valve and all the gears are working, lol, yowza it'll run. I might play with the carbs some more. I also need to finish the dash. The ziptied tach is very temporary....and bodywork.....
