Is that CL (200 or ?) in the background a new addition to your stable? Or is my brain fading away...?... probably the later... haha

that is my little cl200 that we picked up and we found a sloper cl175 engine this weekend at the swap meet. So now we have the whole collection. Cb160 forward.

Zeke and I spent yesterday playing with the cb175 transmission. As we learned you assemble the transmission with the engine upside down. Now the cb175 shop manual has the diagrams viewing if the engine is right side up which is very frustrating. However, in the same manual if you flip over to the cb125 transmission diagram you have the diagrams like you would assemble the transmission with the engine upside down. We won't tell you how long we stared at the diagram to flip it in our brain. So here is a diagram for a cb175 transmission as you would assemble it to understand how the transmission is sequenced...for the cb125 is totally different.

Red will be gears that are on the shifter forks and green will be freewheeling gears that are engaged by the red.

Had a thought to use a chain saw sharpener to undercut the dogs on the transmission gears and found this guy who used a miter saw. http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net/threads/48346-DIY-gearbox-repair

Scan pics from the manual and flip them using software then print out. Not exactly the same but will help.

Hi there people! I've been lurking on this thread for a long time and enjoy reading you're findings about these bikes.

If you don't mind me asking, why would you undercut the gear dogs? What's the benefit/purpose?

Great job guys! Zeke will be a master of bikes in no time! Keep it coming!

Dualero it is my understanding that undercutting the dogs helps lock the gears when under a load and helps in doing quicker and more precise shifting with and without a clutch off a load. In this transmission some of the dogs on the gears are already undercut. I will post some pictures later. Cheers! Zeke made his mother a heart out of aluminum for Mothers's Day!

Nice, is all the ali getting the same finish?
simo can you give us the info on the closer ratio gearing for the tranny? I know you have mentioned it before.

We have been getting cranky and playing with the transmission for about a week now. https://vimeo.com/166191267 Any recommendations for better bearings for the tranny? The clutch side bearing has less resistance than the sprocket bearing. Also how hot do you think the tranny gets. What is the formula converting RPMS to sprocket output shaft speed?

I was tinkering with a spreadsheet for my 360 a few years back. You're welcome to a copy!
