Cool man! I saw some of your guys at the booth at W.O.W today. I am thinking next year us cafe guys should get a spot. There was nothing but chops, rockets, and 8 cyl bikes there. I think we could really turn some heads with our cafe's. What do you think? maybe like 8-10 from around the chitown area. I feel like the cafe would be a nice change for ALOT of people from the same v twin, and rockets that are always there. Out of every bike there I literally saw 2 bikes that weren't v twins or rockets, and both were bobbers.
 
Thks JRK def gonna follow ur powder advise. I checked out eatwood and planning on ordering the copper powder from them. Love the cables man gonna use that one also. I have used black shrink tubing to dress up mine, and even completely replacing the outer shell with it when the old one is all cracked. I should help keep moisture out, and with the your shielding on top should protect the rubber from wear. I agree you should you a piece of shrink wrap on the end. Use the kind with adhesive lining for the ends.

saw some of the lite em up jackets did you? cool... ya man my buddies have been on me for not having a booth there... prob next year... and your right! it does need some cafe representation!!!
 
hell ya killing it tonight! motivated as hell to get this sucker done! Bouncer and Boom HIT ME UP when you need to bleed your brakes... i got a good bleeder! rebuilt my master cyl and then blead them out... did my front in about 15 min... then back to the rear sets.... got them shaved down, drilled and tapped for the brake side linkage... then blasted everything down... i am going to do 2 part powder on these.... support brackets, peg mounts, brake spring, spring perch, frame brackets, and i even did the gas cap will all get the bronze (heavy gold flake) and clear powder (they are all baking right now actually) then the rest, shifter/brake arm, pegs, stay springs will all get high gloss black with gold flake (prob do that tomorrow) on the rear sets if shaved and sanded them down so much so they are perfectly smooth! you can nto even see the casting marks... very clean! so that is checked off... ill post pics in a bit!
 
may not seem like much! but a TON of prep went into getting these like they are now... got to black out the other stuff tomorrow and i can Cross another one off the list!

Nice, if those parts were as dirty and cruddy and rusty as they were on my bike, that was a lot of work. They look better than new! And the finish will probably last for a while.

Love this build.
 
my fav part is... with the brackets being done the same color as the frame, the rear sets will just blend in, they will not stand out and draw your eye to one part, will be very ascetically pleasing, today i will get the black done, and with any luck get these suckers on the bike!!! STILL NEED A BRAKE LEVER ARM!!! mine is just GONE!
 
Man you just love to powder. Doesn't it get expensive for the materials? Is that spring going to work still?
 
no man i buy in BULK from the distributers, so it is not bad... hell ya the spring works great! my kickstand recoil spring is done as well... you will see the paint and airbrush skills a bit closer to final paint... then i will bust out the guns and burshes to get some effects... may even do a bit of pinstriping on it... just a touch on the tail section when i do the bikes name.
 
Ill keep the bleeder in mind, but I think I might go dual drum on my first build. The caliper on my disc is locked open and I figure it will just be easier to use the already working drum from one of the other bikes for this build. Trying to cut back on my first build a bit so I can be sure to actually get it done.
 
Joe, Bike is just amazing! But you are letting me down brother. I got on here hoping for a JRK photo fix. And what, no new photos????Come on man, I need more photos of that thing comming together. Haha. Hopefully it's just a sign that you've been too busy working on the bike to take pics. later Troy
 
I train in shaolin Kempo on Wednesday nights... i raced home after work, fired up the oven, cleaned and prepped the rest of the controls and shot them in a mirror black (with gold flake) and dry mixed a bit of clear into the black... they came out great... but i had to take them out of the oven and GO... My Sifu (instructor) is an increadibly high rank, martial arts hall of fame and crap... i never like to show up late, he trains me and another in his own house to pass on his teachings. It is an honor to learn from him (Rodney Childs)... so i did not even have a chance to snap pics of the work. I was planning on it when i got home but his buddy a Kungfu instructor was there and we worked kicks all night... i could hardly walk when i got home... just passed out.

the brakes are really not that hard to rebuild boom, you may want to take them apart and at least check them out...if not i am going to rock drums on my honda build as well, i think it looks cool.
the carbs have been polished on top and bottom and the bodies are powder coated in high gloss black (gold flake dry mix) they look amazing! that is truely going to be a focal point on this scoot. i should be able to get the rear sets done up tonight and on the bike then look to see what is next on the list!
 
hell ya! i jsut got a call from my buddy that was moving stuff in his storage building and he found a HYDROLIC pipe bender with all the attachments back there! they are moving it to his shop for me today... YES! now i will be able to bend all my own pipe... looks like a custom exhaust is going to happen on this sucker!
it is for thick pipe though but i bet if i freeze water inside or fill the exuast tubing with sand i could get some clean bends... what do you think?
 
That is so cool. When I have seen guys do quality custom exhausts, they do sand bending. Good luck!
 
I know they use frozen water when making brass instruments, I don't know why it wouldn't work for you with steel exh. pipe.
 
I heard you can even use presure and water to make megaphone exhausts. Thinking of trying it. I like the megaphone on the bike posted in Jason thread.
 
I can't find the link anymore but basically you take two pieces of sheet and fully weld all the way around them except at one end you add a threaded water fitting. Connect to a line with good pressure and start pumping it in. The end result is....err....homely but serviceable. do a google search for hydroforming
