No apologies necessary my friend. I was in the same said mood. I actually laughed at your post. I see you are as fluent in sarcasm as I am....and that is a good thing!

LOL.... ahhhh a fellow linguist too I see! Exxxxcellentttt *rubs hands in Montgomery Burns fashion* ;)

In fact I speak fluent sarcasm, volumes of satire, and have been known to also parle un peu de français 8)

ca'va? LOL

Cheers mate. glad you didn't take it the wrong way... often hard to convey sarcasm over internet... like those text messages we send ppl that often blow up in our faces hahaha ::) ... and they are like "mutha-f*cker"... but we just meant to be sarcastic... but the sentiment doesn't come thru so they assume we're being dicks haha

Okay... those of you living "State" side... you probably seen this getting around either on the web or at motorcycle shows. It's the Mission 'One'. An electric supersports bike. I believe it runs on Li-Ion batteries (farkin' expensive but v/light) and is good for a 150 mile range with a top speed of 150mph. The bike can be adjusted to lower the top speed and increase range though.. so if you're happy to have a top speed of 120mph to play with... you'd probably have a bit more juice for an extra long run thru the twisties ;) Best thing is... 120 foot pounds of torque and a 136hp liquid cooled 3-phase AC induction motor. It runs on super light Marchesini forged alloy wheels with Brembo brakes, and Ohlins suspension all-round.
AND coz it's electric.. there's no gears... just roll-on. Whether you're taking off from the lights or cruising at 70mph, you can roll the thottle on and you still have an immediate 120 ft/lbs available... Yee-haa! And it will power wheelie at 70mph too.

Unfortunately... they're still too farkin expensive.... but I want one.. sure there is no engine sound... the sweetest sound on earth (next to the sound of afterburners) Will try and attach some vid footage too:

Personally, I do love old motorcycles.. heck.. even new motorcycles.. I love going thru the gears.. the sound of the pistons and the exhaust note thru the pipes.. the smell of bikes and all the extra wonderful sexy stuff that is all about riding a motorcycle. BUT, we must also remember, that the main reason we ride is to be 'IN' the experience of the journey. Sitting in a car with windows and a roof destroys our souls.... so we sit on a bike.. and we can smell the air, and see so much more and feel the wind thru our eyeballs.... I guess, what I'm trying to say is this: we shouldn't be affraid to embrace an electric bike. Sure, most of us have our preference... fuel... motors... etc. But, we shouldn't forget the main reason many of us ride is simply for the pure enjoyment of riding.... it shouldn't matter if it's fuel or elec.
Whether we like it or not, the future will arrive here one day. As tech becomes more available, product prices will drop and things like the Mission One will be within the grasp of mear mortals to afford. Eventually, we will use all the fossil fuels up.. so, if the future is a 150mph super-light, super-fast, 130hp, 120ft/lb race monster that only needs to be plugged in at night.. and I can roll-on wheelie at 70mph....? Then, I guess i'm alright with that ;)

That railroad bike looks cool, something definalty Bizarre, just cant wrap my head around how it works.

Looks simple enough to me.
The 'bar' sticking through at diagonal fits into square by rear wheel to keep it on the rails.
the wheel has a gear train running to it and you can see hole where a pedal would fit
It ain't rocket science ;)

Magnus Pike ('doctor' in the vid) really was a rocket scientist :D
Famous for waving his arms about while explaining 'stuff'
He was on TV a lot in Britain in late 70's, entertaining chap broke things down so normal population could understand it 8)

I've heard Richard Hammond from Top Gear (Brittish car show) mention Magnus Pike in one of their episodes... Hammond was a big fan of his.... Even Hammond himself used to host a science show that explained "stuff"... it was called "Brainiac: Science abuse" and it followed on in a similar fashion as the old curiosity shows like Pike's. We even had a show here in Oz back in the 80's called "the Curisoity show"... but we never had a crazy science boffin as awesome as Pike.. he was geniusly mad :p LOL

... "and now for something completley different..." (Monty Python saying)

In all honesty, I'm not sure what it is, but it appears to be a bunch of 2-stroke parrellel twins thrown into a frame.... it's like an in-line-parrellel-six 2-stroke.... ;D hell yeah! Imagine the fun! ;)

Here's something nteresting (I think so anyway). Some of the more experienced bike nuts here may know this motor, but hopefully some of you young'uns may be surprised by it:

Apollomotor.jpg

It's the motor from the prototype Ducati Berliner 1260 Apollo from 1964. It is a 1250cc V4 motor, which was very pioneering for both Ducati and for the 60's. (Yes, I'm aware that AJS made a V4 long before Ducati did.. but it was nowhere near as fast as this unit). The bike could reach a top speed of 120mph straight from the factory floor, which in itself was a mean feat back then. 190km/hr was a whopping speed to obtain from a motorcycle back then. It may have been easily achieved with aftermarket parts or mods on most big bikes of that time, but this did that speed from the factory... without mods. I'm pretty certain it was designed under Ducati 'Berliner', the Ducati main dealer in the U.S.... and it was created as a solution to rival H-D for the police bike contracts... which is probably why it was released with such whopping speed capability

Here's another I like:

Now, my guess is that many of us have already seen or heard of these things... but again, for the newbs and young'uns, thought I would share it here.. coz really, we must all agree... putting a turbo-shaft motor in a motorcycle is just sheer awesomeness :D
This thing is called the MTT Y2K Turbine Superbike and utilizes a Rolls Royce Allison 250 turbo-shaft engine... and although it's made to run on Aviation kerosene (which is impossible for mere mortals to obtain), it will run on Diesel or Aviation A fuel also. The motor produces 320 HP and is good for 320km/hr (or 230 mph approx, for you guys in Imperial land LOL). Sounds like fun right? Well, it probably would be if I had the US$175k for one  ;D

Three motor, two stroke drag bike = badass.

Jet engined bikes (street bikes), especially ones painted up like theyre a camaro built in the early 80s by a guy in Northern New Jersey = awful.

LOL.. yeah.. I agree.. the paint on the Y2K is like a bad acid trip... LOL... but, to be technical.. it's not a jet-turbine.. it's a turboshaft.. it's like a giant turbo really.... it works differently to a standard turbine jet engine.... the only reason I would own one... 320km/hr :D but i'd paint the bitch two-tone gloss & matt black with wheels and trims in BLACK chrome, with blacked out lights and not a single piece of silver chrome on it ;)

I mean... really...? What's the point of owning a 300kmph+ bike if it looks like a gay Lebonese hairdressers bicycle helmet? haha :p

Re: AWESOME BIZZARE STUFF - PREF MOTOR RELATED (or other, so long as interesting

Horrible paint aside, that bike is terribly impractical for the road. On the salt flats, sure... The "jet" bikes have a 1-2 second lag between when you twist the throttle, and when they produce any useable power. Same for when you let off the go juice. It takes a second for the bike to spool down. Thats a recipie for disaster on the road. Again, put it on the salt, and Ill ride the tires off. On the street its just another way for guys with big wallets and small peckers to get attention.

exactly... but here in Oz.. we have big salt lakes.... Plus, if you go 1 hr out of the city... out into the country... miles upon miles of open road and no-one around for ages ;) Perfect for that... but I just keep thinking salt... I'm building a GSX750 salt racer early next year... so I'm attracted to things that go fast.... I have a funny feeling I may be having pornographic dreams of thrashing this thing on the salt lake tonight... haha ;D

Not enough exhausts for triples

Sir, there is no word in the dictionary that would be sufficient enought to describe just how fucking awsome this thing is! :D Sex on wheels.... retro sex baby.. oh yeah *drools*

Hmmm, they do possess that really square boxey looking slotted head like the old Kawa 2-strokes do... but there certainly isn't enout exhausts for it to be a triple... My bet is that the motors are from Kawasaki A 7 Avenger (2-stroke twin 350cc), or even the A1 Samurai (2-stroke twin 250cc)

a7avenger.jpg

http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/kawasaki_a7_avenger_1971.php

The head appearance is identical.. the only thing that throws me is the barrels.. the drag bike havs a slight reces under the rear of head... perhaps he was running a different barrell and con-rods (longer or shorter) from another model... it is a drag bike after all, so he may have a bitsa in order to get desired right torque/hp/compression he wanted...

"The drag bike identified as "Triple Engine R5 Drag Racer" is not actually R5 based but YR1 based with TR2 top-ends. The emblems on the magneto covers are from the R5, causing some confusion. I built this bike in 1970, after campaigning a double engine drag bike for a while. I sold the bike to Bob Stein in California about 15 years ago. Pat Miller Houston, TX"
