Megladon... *ahem* i mean... Megla-Chop. That thing is a land barge.... it needs a sail and an anchor hanging off the bow! LOL.. but I love that too. I admire the boldness of a guy that wakes up and says "I want to build the longest biggest badest mofo of a mofo'ing chopper sled anyone has ever seen..." and then does it. *2 thumbs up*

(...but could you imagine getting that thing around a corner... whoa)

Gotta say man, that thing is gross. Everything a "chopper" isnt.
I agree... it is completely daft... but i love the ridiculousness of it all.. and the fact that nothing stopped him from making it. It's like the beauty of Frankenstien.. in a weird, grotesque, morbid, but albiet, creative way. That's what i love about the build. It's monstrosity and boldness... without any regard for logic or sense. Or balance LOL.
In other words, it's just mental... Yet, there's many a guy that likes Angelina Jollie for the same reason... she's slightly mental... adds to the intrigue LOL I should know, I'm an Ange-fan ;D Sometimes strange can be beautiful in that it's unique. Not neccessarily aesthetic or harmonic ;) That was my angle :)

Sure, strange is interesting, if it functions. That thing is a disaster waiting to happen. Motorbikes shouldnt be built to go in a straight line only (unless its a purpose built drag bike or something). Defeats the whole ideal of having a motorcycle.

Ill admit that the work seems well done. But thats not the only important factor.

I also really dislike the term "chopper" being thrown at any rediculous monstrosity that has a hardtail and a springer. This is a chopper:

Or this:

P8200282.jpg

Simple. Basic. Made to move quickly, and handle well. Nothing there that doesnt aid in going or stopping, with a dose af attitude thrown in.

Maybe Im just cranky because Im under the weather, but that bike and others like it are just swinging dicks. Just a way to say, "look what I did, and more importantly, look at ME"!!!!

No disrespect to the builders talents, but blech... Id rather have some POS old rusty hunk of metal that will still haul ass and can actually be ridden.

You're damn right! The term is thrown about too lossely! Indeed.. although, the bikes you posted are indeed a form of chopper, to be more difinitive, they could probably fit under the sub-chop heading of Bobber, since bobbers have historically been short forks, naked front wheel, rigid rear... these are still chops, but more of a british style take on the bobber class ;)

But, what would I know...? I only used to work in the custom Harley/Chopper industry as a parts interpreter and after-market custom parts salesman... just thought I'd throw the bobber category in there, as these are definitely choppers, but more difinitively, british style "Bobbers" :) And they're bloody nice too mate! I find these types of customs the most inspiring... anything british.. and anything that blurs the cafe/chop line...

Bobbers are historically bikes that came from the factory with hardtail frames (like the mid 50s and earlier HDs and Brit bikes), that were "bobbed" out by cutting down the fenders, and other body work as well as removing as much weight as possible to make them more agile and able to race.

Choppers are a form of custom motorcycle that came about in the 60s where sprung frames were hardtailed, and almost no stock parts were kept. They were made to be as light and agile as possible. There are the more show based chops out there, that were usually built to showcase what a shop or home builder was capable of. These are the crazy "diggers" and others you see with 18" over forks, huge amounts of stretch and rack added to the bike.

Though many of those show chops were built, the majority of guys were out on the streets riding bike similar to what you see above, or the "bobber" style bikes.

They were the sort of American version of what the Europeans were doing with there "racers" and "specials".

Machines built by young men who wanted a capable machine that the factory wouldnt give them. A lot of these bikes in the beginning were used as racers here in the states, for flattrack and hillclimbing when they werent being ridden to work.

The US outlaw bikes clubs adopted these styles, because they were the ones who built them in the first place in many respects. And having a fast, narrow, and agile bike was a big help when you needed to get away from somewhere quickly in the cities they inhabited.

Most modern "choppers" are just art pieces unfortunatly. I know a few guys who ride American Ironhorse, or similar "choppers" and theyre obnoxious at best. They dont handle for shit, and are far to extreme to be really ridden hard.

The similarities between the Brit "specials" and American bobbers and chops are numerous. Just as Every bike company is now making a "factory custom chopper" there are plenty pumping out overweight, and underpowered plastic "cafe racers".

Again, maybe Im just cranky but the whole thing bugs the shit out of me.

AMEN.

(p.s. Von... you must have a new profile ic for evry day of the week LOL) Not knocking, I actually love the pics you dig up for your av.. just an witty observation is all ;)

Hey guys *waves*... So, its been some time since i posted here... most of my year has been written off with health issues, but I'm getting more active with my bike building again as my health improves... which has inspired me to plonk a couple new pics in this thread...

the 1st image isn't so quite AWESOME BIZZARE.. but more just AWESOME... the wheels are tiny... and the forks! BUT it's a fullsized engine! Possibly the coolest, most fun BMW I've ever seen :)

.... and then there is this little beauty....

IT'S a CD player! Who wants one!? ME! *throws hand up in violent it*

;D

... oh.. and my new favourite bike... It's a concept.. and it's been out for a bit of time now... but just thought I'd chuck it in simply for the sheer lunacy and engineering of it... It's called the Kickboxer... and it's got a WRX 2lt turbo motor at the heart of it

kickboxer-subaruwrxengine.jpg

... yeah... I want one of them too *drools*

this thread rules. I wish i had something to contribute, but I can't think of anything motorcycle related, so here's my other love, VW's:

Hi mate! ;) Thanks for contributing.. and for the compliment! Im glad some people like this thread :) Well, they don't HAVE to be motorcycles always.. just preferably... for obvious reasons LOL.. but i love VW's also... I like the bottom pic though.. the nickel plating looks great and it looks like it's running side draught Webbers...? Is that from a Jetta?

webers indeed, but no - it's a cabriolet. the 16 valve never came in that car though, so it was swapped in.

So.... i'm a glass is half full type of guy.. so i guess i was halve right on that one LOL ;D Gotta love a good weber... although... my old '77 Alfa GTV 2000 ran twin 45mm side draft dellortos... that was a freaking weapon.. I miss it :S

hey PJ... that's a mad scooter! I might have to try and one up it ;) LOL maybe we can start a crazy scooter post-off hahaha...

PJ... do you reckon that is factory? So hard to tell these days... things like the CanAM and other 2 wheel-front scooters getting around... I won't be surprised if I see motorcycle companies and scooter companies making more trikes in the next few years.. I'm calling it... they will... as fuel gets dearer.. ppl will swap to bikes, but bike co's will make them more ridable like a car, to entice the masses and cagers ;) I'll put a fiver on it ;D

in the meantime.. let the scoot-off begin...

WTF?
Beam me up Scotty ;D
I think the tricycle was a 'home brew' some of the stuff looked a bit 'off'
I thought I took picture of the fabrication but can't find it
Did you notice the tow ball?
Couldn't find the trailer to go with it though ;)

Now for some gear from one of my favourite European builders... His name is LAzareth and he builds mostly high performance modern bikes... but his designs are both aggressive and vissionary... Lo-and-behold....

The Quadrazilla:
quadrazuma7.jpg

quadrazuma-rear.jpg

The Quad is powered by a Yamaha R1 engine, and can put out 120 horsepower although, due to his countries road laws... because it's a quad bike it has been limited to 20 BHP. for the road. Most of it is made custom, but there are a few components that come from various superbikes; the front brakes comes from the Yamaha MT-01, the rear brakes from the Yamaha R1, and the headlight comes from the Honda CBR (954 from the look of it)... and a steering mechanism fitted from the Renault Twingo. All the body work is CF and runs on 17" alloys... weighs in at 380kgs... sounds like fun... (provided the restricter is off!) ;D

And then there's his other monsters...

The last four images are different versions he has made of what he calls the Lazareth 1000GTS (I have no idea what the top one is...) The first few models have what I believe to have a FZR1000 motor where-as the last version is the V-max engined version...
It has both front and rear console swingarms which incorperate an 8-piston front caliper... and rocking a 4-into-4 Agusta style exhaust set-up. (although the V-max motored one has an MT-01 inspired exhaust aesthetic).
The headlights are R1 from what I can tell... Aparently the FZR engined one put's out 130BHP at the rear wheel and is good for 300km/hr. It looks mad and fantastic.. I want one.. although, my '96 CBR900RR did 300... not that I made a habit of it.... just nice to know what your sled is capable of
;D

woah... i didn't even notice that tow ball... HAHAHAHA... whats he gunna pull with that? a 6-pack of Bud? hahaha.... I suppose... some people would be like.. "WTF you wanna waste your time and money doing a trike conversion on your scooter man?"... but if it were me.. I'd do it just to do something different.... my answer would be "why the f*ck not?" LOL I give him brownie points just for the iniative and bravery *thumbs up*

Okay... perhaps some of you have seen this thing floating around for the last couple years... it's still just a concept.. but I hope they make it.. I'll sell my kidney for one! It's called the Yamaha Deus Ex Machina:

yamaha-deus-ex-machina_switched.jpg

concept-yamaha-motorcycle.jpg

motorcycle-concept-yamaha.jpg

It's totally electric and is capable of 75mph... I think the last photo is just with the battery pack and shroud on... it's controlled by hand controls located in the forward legs and can be turned at high speed simply by shifting body weight or tilting/twisting your torso... the faster you go, the lower it sits... or so i believe

Seeing that quadracycle made me remember the one I saw at a local car show two summers ago. Registered as a motorcycle, Small block chevy, turbo 350 trans they are available in either a Kit or a finished unit.
Awesome?.. I think so.
Bizzare?.. I'll let you decide.
Want one? ... HELL YEA!
