this scares me. Ive never done much wiring work, and Im going to be building a harness from scratch when it comes time. I guess it might actually be easier since it will be from scratch.. Ill still find a way to screw it up though!
Take that back here is info i got on the 16 gauge black
Black=Positive or hot side of the wireing harness for turn signal relay, horn, ignition, starte relay, and brake light switch. So check all those and make sure they are connected to a black wire. May be your signal relay if you deleted that part of the harness or it goes down to your brake switch.
no luck again tonight no lights, still not sure where to put that thicker black wire but no matter where i put it except ground it shorts out the green wire. this is draining my motivation
EDIT:: Fuck this old bullshit wiring, im making my own from scratch, all new. this is what i shoulda done from the start.
I'm thinking I'll prob get it along with the rectifier he sells. When I get to that point of the project anyway. Thought it might help ya out. Pretty cheap and he emails it to ya so you don't have to wait long for it.

haha i bought that rectifier and diagram while back installed the rec. but was worried about the harness. I just got off the phone with him, this is the reason im convinced to make my own harness
So are you going to use his diagram to make it? Or were you using it for what you were doing and now are just going to do it all on your own? Just wonering if its worth buying or not. I have a '71 CB450 so I imagine the wiring will pretty much be the same.

OK, I think I found something. I took my headlight off and it looks like the white/yellow wire from the headlight switch goes into a white wire behind the headlight. I am pretty sure this white wire goes directly to the alternator. It is not the white one from the headlight. It is a different one. Looking at the wiring diagram, this white wire goes to a connector at the alternator. You could use a multimeter or something to make sure it is the right one.
I have no idea what that black one is for. The only wires going to my battery are the really thick main cables and one extra green wire going to the neg terminal.

HEY JRK the holders are called adel clamps I have a bunch but they are for 2 1/2 inch pipe so they are way to big I'm using one to hole my starter celenoid. Ebay is where I get them, but you can get them anywhere really. They are used in aircrafts.
I bought the diagram also, but I kept my harnes. But making a new one sounds good. Check out vintage connectors they have some nice connectors you can use to make a neat harness. Theres a link on my build and in the special tools thread area. I recommend the $50 set that comes with the crimper. They also carry all the white plastic connector for the rectifier so all your wires will look new.
DAMM Tim that harness is nice. did the wire come with the shielding or did you buy it from he place JRK recommends? Is it all the way through or just on the exposed end? What size where how? colors ont the bullets? Tell Tell Tell
wiring harness is DONE and DONE, it was so much easier to just make a new one, plus i used way less wire. only thing i might change is my kill switch is the key now so i have a useless toggle switch mounted under my seat so i might change that or maybe i should make the taillight switchable so i can run from cops lol.
I have to thank Sinistrcycles from ebay for the diagram and even talking some things over on the phone
JRK - if you cant find/get those holders then i can send you some, we have a bunch in our shop....10 or so come in every battery relocation kit we install.
hell ya man! thanks... i am going to run to Home depot later today, and i will check... i plan on a big weekend for my build... glad you got the wiring done... sit back burn one down and let the mind relax a bit now, ha ha ha ha

wish i still burned. I cant stop now im getting my wheels back today so i have to get this exhaust grinded down, wrapped and put on so i can fire this baby up!
believe it or not it was really simple, well now it is ..it wasnt when honda made it. The headlight high and low, tail light and starter all work great, but i dont have the exhaust on so i havent tried running it to see how the charging system works but im sure it will be better then when honda made it since its wired to charge all the time and with a way better rectifier plus LED tail light and no blinkers. I may have a little bit of a drain with the H4 headlight but i think ill be fine.
thanks but im using the ones you can see in the pics, no electronics, right now im using a brake flipped for the clutch until the company sends me another one.
BTW in those pics my bike was running!!!!!! woo hoo but my left side carb was causing the exhaust to backfire
ANYONE GOT A FRONT BRAKE SWITCH I CAN BUY FROM THEM ?????
