my ghetto ass winter redo 72' CL450

Re: my ghetto ass winter redo 73' CL450

Im considering doing an undertail exhaust down the line, and one of my bigger concerns has been mounting the battery under the cowl with it being in such close proximity to the exhaust. Are you worried at all?

im not too worried yet, ran the bike for 30 mins straight to get the wrap to start drying and the pipes where only hot up too about mid way, i could touch the last foot and a half without noticing it was hot, also the exhaust gas felt cool coming out wich doesnt make sense. i think with the wrap and the steel plate it should be fine, if not then i have some "cool it" floor mat from DEI made to keep your feet from burning up in race cars from the exhaust.

That is looking bloody brilliant. A real modern take on the classic cafe job.

looks like im gonna have tire/exhaust clearance issues, gonna need taller shocks

Re: my ghetto ass winter redo 73' CL450

Awesome! Have you tried out the riding position with the rearsets so far back? Someone cut the passenger peg brackets off my frame so I was thinking about mounting some R6 rearsets to the big motor mount blob by the swingarm pivot. They would end up about where yours are. On the stock pegs, my elbow almost hit my knees when I'm down in the proper position.

What size rear tire is that? They look big. The tire will probably hit just sitting on the ground.

Derek, your bike is looking bad ass. I also just noticed your Geno's picture, do you live around here? If so we need to get together to work on our bikes. I also think that the tire is going to hit the exhaust it looks like you'll have to sell it to me and get a smaller one. ;D

I live in Drexel Hill right outside Philly and work in West Chester, where you at i wouldnt mind helping you out/riding with you. i havent had the bike on the ground yet to see if it will hit but i have two solutions already 1) take the exhaust back off and heat the pipes and oval them out/flatten them 2) buy cb1100 shocks which are 1.5" taller but are 90-110$. either way you aint gettin my tire ;D

I seem to be missing the "Ghetto" part of this build. It looks beautiful so far.

its not a automotive/motorcycle battery so its not rated like that , i think its for a power chair/wheelchair battery, its been better at starting and charging and staying charged better then the battery made for the bike though.

Re: my ghetto ass winter redo 73' CL450

Have you started the bike with that battery? electric start I mean. I just don't feel like buying a new battery because I can't start the bike.

I have ONLY used the electric starter to start my bike about 50 times since installing it and i have cranked it (without fuel on...DUH) dozens and dozens of times and never did it sound weak or drained. the real motorcycle battery i had for the bike before would start dieing after 10-15 cranks. Im impressed.......plus its cheaper!!!! and sealed!!!!

PS i found out today my bike is a 1972...... im using broadway titles to get a new one

Re: my ghetto ass winter redo 73' CL450

Sweet, thats what I want to hear. My other battery that is new would also die after like 10 cranks then I would just kick it over, not that I don't like the kick start just not sure if it will clear the brake pedal if I go with rearsets of some sort. I am trying to see if there is a bike that has a rearset that just consists of a peg and lever without the brackets so that I can just bolt the peg and the lever where my stock rear passenger peg used to go. I'm looking at this battery.

Re: my ghetto ass winter redo 73' CL450

update:
bike is running great and looking awsome, gonna be waiting awhile on the seat to be done by my body guy/painter wich gives me time to remove the front tire again and have the tire mounted in the correct rotation direction. I got my replacement clutch lever so if anyone needs a satin black brake lever with front brake switch mount hole let me know i have 2. I realized the other day that i rode all last summer without a fuel filter :p so i ordered these babys and they are sick! no ugly clear plastic no nothing only thing you can see that its even there is a small buldge in the fuel line, simple as getting a chick pregnant......just slip it in, and your good to go.

hard to see in these shitty pics but they are very porous and fuel has no problem flowing right past them.

;D
