‘65 Triumph T120R Bobber - “Ticket To Ride”

A lot of stuff has been painted with those purple guns!

Indeed, I’ve gotten silly good clear coat results with it. But I’ve switched to the Astro EuroPro HE/HT gun for clearcoats. It’s a first class gun that can hang with $500 guns and costs under $100.

The purple gun is retired to Primer and other odds and ends paints.

I do still use a cheap HVLP detail gun for base coats on the bike parts most of the time.

BTW That oil tank hanging on the right is not for this bike. It is for my buddy's super rare 1953 Triumph T100RR Factory Race bike. It should be done before fall hits, he was able to score it still with matching engine and frame after it'd been sitting for a few decades after getting the full '70s chopper treatment in the early '70s. Some major de-funkification work going on with it now, it's almost finished with all the parts getting the restoration work wrapped up in the next couple of weeks and onto assembly. Going to be a very cool collector bike as he was able to track down it's AMA heritage back through the records. That oil tank had so much bondo smoothing and orange metal flake paint on it I swear I spent 3 days stripping it down to metal to repair it correctly.

Today I laid down the base coats. Going for a classic tuxedo look with the black gold stripe and gold pins.

I ordered a set of walls for my EZ-Up tent and used that for my paint booth. Here are some in process and finished base coat shots... clear goes on tomorrow.

Lol at the aftermath in the background.

Not doing a full reveal until I’ve color sanded and polished it out. But here’s a front fender teaser.

While I wait for the paint to cure out, I cobbled together a couple of different side stands into one that works for this bike. Now I can return the TIG welder to my buddy. I’ve never had luck MIG welding a side stand. I’ll clean that up and powder coat it tomorrow.

Nice. Come weld a tang back on mine wouldya? I have 3 GL side stands, all 3 have the tang to put them down broken off. That looks nice.

I'll add a tang to this one but I wanna get the motor back in the frame and make sure it clears the cover and doesn't stick out too far.

I did have to take the front end apart this morning and add a couple of cap screws to the bottom triple to act as steering stops. The Forks were gonna slap the tank hard. Glad I sorted that out now. The Turning radius is gonna be less than stellar because of this but should be more than acceptable. I might be able to turn the screw heads down a bit and maximize the travel, but can do that after I'm done and the thing on the road.

Powdered my headlight bucket gloss black today too. The factory matte black powder was a bear to remove. Had to resort to chemical and mechanical means.

Got the front and read fenders sprayed with an undercoating to keep the rock chips from rusting them out prematurely.

Then was able to cut and polish the front fender and get it mounted up.
