Re: 1962 BSA DBD34 Gold Star restoration (We have ignition...)
Thanks, dcmspikes. Quick update, the final parts are starting to arrive and despite feeling ill with sinus and respiratory crud, I dragged my sick ass over to the shop to do some work.
First, my harness and connectors arrived from British Wiring. First time buying from them and they are great! Good communication, fast shipping and I now have a nice cloth wound harness with tail light section and dynamo wires included. I know my 1962 BSA GS should have a plastic wrapped harness, but I like the look of the older cloth bound harness. I'll take the heat from the "correct part police".
Using my old harness as a guide, I converted a standard BSA harness to the Quick Detach style using my QD set up from Tricor UK.
There are some minor differences between the two harnesses and I think I finally have it sorted. Once I test it on the bike, I will post a complete diagram. I could not find a Gold Star wiring diagram, but I found a Rocket Gold Star diagram that was close to my original loom.
I had a difficult time considering a $150 replica Lucas Altette horn, but found a very nice 6v Italian made replica from Domiracer for $56. I looks really nice and weighs over 2 pounds. Have not tested it yet because I still need to find a 6 volt battery.
I have a nice pile of misc hardware and am waiting on my sidestand and chainguard from Burton Bike Bits in the UK. I have a busy week coming up and will be offline for a while. I need to get the bike out of my house and over to the shop to fit the final parts, add fluids, await my restored magdyno and get ready to fire her up.
Soon...
