1972 CB175. first bike, first build.

Nah, the relay would take care of the amperage draw of the leds.

Now that I think about it a little more, it has to be something in the switch on the bars. Each side (left + right) are basically on 2 separate circuits - the only place those 2 circuits should meet is at the switch. And obviously, they shouldn't actually "meet" at the switch.

so do you think the two wires are touching? would that cause all 4 to blink at once?

Before I say yes, I would want to check a wiring diagram.

"If" you pull that switch apart, try to activate the signals one at a time. But seriously, check a diagram before anything else.

Yeah, somethings frigged up in the switch or the bars. You are a trooper for fishing those wires by the way, I totally cheated last time I did that in clubmans.

+1 0n Rich's advice.

Looked at a wiring diagram and I have everything hooked up correctly. I took the switch off and watched the arm make contact with each lead switching from L to R. Either the switch is bad on the handlebars or something else is giving me troubles. Perhaps I fubared some wire or lead when I was fishing the wires through the clubmans, as the stock turn signals worked before I switched them to LEDs. I even had the led signals I'm using now on the bike before I touched any wiring for the handle bars. They just lit up all at once. The only thing the superbrightleds flasher did was make them blink all at once. I sure hope it's something else as I really don't want to have to take those wires out and do it all over again!

Got a multi-meter handy? You could check for continuity between the O / LBl wires near the switch. They have to both be getting power at the same time for all 4 signals to light up at once.....

This is turning into a real enigma.

I would go back to square one. Hook up the old flashers and see what happens. If they work fine then you know the problem is in the led's and/or relay. If they don't work then you may have to pull the wiring out of the bars and see whats what. get it all working then decide if you are going to re-fish them or go external. just my .02

this fucking bike hates me!
so last week i order a set of eye to clevis shocks to replace the old worn out stockers. the shocks i bought were old redlines that were about half an inch taller, which at the time was a good idea in my head given i kept bottoming out the rear wheel going over big bumps or when my 100lb girl friend would ride with me. they came in this morning and i start to put them on.
redwingshocks.jpg

first off, they dont fit at all. the rubber eyelette bushing is a little too big for the stock upper mounting point and none of the supplied bushing/washers fit. i just wrapped some electrical tape around the mount to compensate for the bigger eye opening on the new shocks. then problem 2. the bottom clevis holes are too big. the stock bolt fits through the lower mounting point perfect and is the same size on the stock shocks. not so much on these new ones. the threads on the inside clevis leg are too big which makes for no kind of threading.
clevishole.jpg

the only thing i could do is run a longer bolt with a nut, which wouldnt work because the bolts on the sprocket are very close to the left side shock mount. i couldve gotten away with a skinny nut and the perfect length bolt but still it is very close and kind of sketchy. and of course, the new shocks are full spring bodies so i have to clearance the chain gaurd to make foom for the new wider shock to go. now i have a nice big ugly hole in it. so before i go to home depot to get the new longer nuts/bolts, i start to bolt up the new shocks from the upper mounts just letting them hang. left side goes on fine with no problems. then to the right side. i put the shock on and let it hang as i put the stock nut back on. tightening it down and what do you know. the fucking nut snaps off with the threads of the mount bolt in it! awesome. now i have no way of securing the right side upper mount in place.

i just about lost it there and flipped out. (i have a really short fuse) so all said and done, the shocks i bought dont fit, i cut a nice big hole out of the chain gaurd for no reason now, the right side upper mount is fucked and i cant even put the stock shocks back on to ride it as there is no way for the shock to not fall off the side. oh and after all this is done i realize that even if everything did go smoothly and i did get the hardware for the bottom clevis mount to work and not bind that the extra height in the new shocks made my axle rest on the muffler. its just one thing after another.

so now i guess im going to have to either drill and tap the remaining stock mount and put a bolt with washers into it from the outside or have a buddy weld some kind of new mount onto the frame. such a shitty day. hopefully this place will let me return these shocks. :-[

JFish tried the same Redwings and couldn't fit them on his 175 - can't remember what he went with.

I have the same shocks on my 175, but did get them to fit - can't remember how. Sorry man! I'll take a better look tomorrow though.

thank you.

just when the thick couldnt get any thicker it has. went to harbor freight to get a tap and die set as well as some new drill bits. came home to drill the mount to run a bolt from the outside into the mount so the shock wouldnt creep its way off. drilled a hole, started taping it, and what do you know. the fucking tap snaps off inside the hole in the mount!    i cant catch a fuckin break. buddys gonna come over now and see if we cant weld on bolt to the outside of the mount. luck is not on my side.

Got the shock mount issue sorted. Welded a piece of thread stock onto the end of the mount and ran a washer and bolt to keep the shock from sliding off sideways. Not the best move aesthetically but it works and is solid. If this place won't let me return these shocks, anyone want to buy them? ;D

Have pics? how long etc. Eye to eye? eye to clevus? I need some eye to eye. 14.5" ers. Dime city has what I need but would rather help a member out.

If they are what I'm thinking, they are the same as mine. Eye to clevis Redwings.

yeah theyre eye to clevis redwings, 330mm. i could probably make them work by reaming out the bottom clevis mount on the swing arm, but when the bike is on the centerstand, the axle nut hits the muffler. (shouldve gotten shorter ones)

I know this sounds like a stupid comment, and please dont let the post count speak for my expirience, but would moving the muffler out 1/2" possibly allow for the proper clearence when the bike is on the center stand?

yeah ive thought about that but i think it would drive me crazy having one muffler farther out than the other. kind of ocd when it comes to alignment things.

finally a change in luck. after rethinking the whole set up issues i figured it out and fitted the new shocks. i notched the muffler slide brackets so i could slide the both megaphone forward a few inches to remedy the axle problem. i then took out the metal bushing inside of the lower clevis mount to accomodate the bigger bolt issue. got new bolts from home depot and slapped the redwings on. it didnt raise it too much, it is just right. it is a night and day difference. it is alot stiffer and no more feeling of riding a pogo stick on a water bed. after dinner im gonna take it out and give it a hard time to see how they really are. im just glad i got this situation sorted. ;D

if you go back to the turn signals....are the turn signal wires crossed(blue in orange, orange in blue) in the connections inside the headlight?? I had a similar problem with mine. and maybe the led lights aren't taking up enough load in the circuit? i have heard that they need to suck up a certain amount of volts to activate the flasher...hope this helps, if you ever decide to go go back to them. :)
