1972 CB175. first bike, first build.

Yes, the new flasher bulbs on all this after market chinese crap and led stuff needs an inline resister or modern flasher relay added to make this stuff work.

also painted the stock covers back to red. cheap home depot spray paint matches pretty well on the sides of the tank where its not faded as bad as the top.. :D

after looking at my forks, i didnt like how "dinky" they looked and mine were rusted and pitted when i took the stock headlight ears off. i sanded off the rust and hit them with some silver metallic spray paint. it looked alot better, but when putting the new headlight ears on the paint in a few areas flaked off and looked like shit.

so i made another run to home depot with a little idea in my head. i went to the plumbing dept. and got some 1 1/2 " chrome look pipe.
forkcovers.jpg

i measured the length and cut them in a vice with a sawsall.
forkcover4.jpg

slid them on and voila!
forkcover3.jpg

put everything back togeather and called it done.

not bad for $10 and maybe 30 minutes total on a rainy sunday.

Looking good. Got to love the little bikes. Is that light the chrome H4 one from DCC? I was looking for a better option than the old sealed bulb and your light looks nice.

yup its an h4, made by emgo. both the headlight and the ears are from DCC. good dudes over@ DCC. was updated right away via email once it came in and when it shipped out. (it was backordered) the lighting difference is night and day. haha :D

Those chrome uppers look good Andrew - I did the same thing on mine actually. Any problems with them twisting / shifting?

nope, no problems. i made them a tad bit longer with the intension that they would force themselves down into the rubber dust shield ring in the chrome piece that sepperates the lower fork covers from the headlight ears. worked perfect. it did however distort the rubber a little from the pressure causing them to look funny if you get up close. doesnt really bother me enough to take it all apart to trim them a mm or so. ;)

ordered this bad larry today.

the guy that makes them is in florida as well so hopefully it will be here by the end of the week. cant wait! will post pictures when it comes in.

All that stuff looks great! I like that chrome tubing fix on the fork tubes. Black friction tape works too and adds a little grit but that look ain't for every one and with that shiny new headlight you made the right choice!!

does anyone know the ID size of the stock cb175 exhaust headers? im thinking of making a 2 into one exhaust for this bike, using one of my megaphones for the muffler. this would allow me to use my kick starter and would rememdy the rear set clearance issues when i order the motobits rearsets. anyone know the size?

thank you diesel450!

i wonder how much bigger the cb360 pipes are vs. the 175 pipes. would like to run something like this.
001-0203.jpg

my original plan was to buy some 1 3/8 pipe and have my buddy bend it to run into a generic "y" collector and then connect one of my megaphones to the end of the y. i would cover both of the new pipes with header wrap to rid the ugly bare metal finish. anyone have any tips or better ideas?

We made a couple of sets of 2 into 1 pipes for CB175s. Ever short of cash, I used a set of aftermarket pipes and simply cut them up and welded up a collector and then had our local MIDAS store bend up a few bends at different angles for the secondary.

For the next motor, I got a set of 400 bandit pipes dead cheap and cut them up to provide bends and straights and made up the collector and used a MIDAS secondary again. Took some welding and way too much grinding to get it right, but dead cheap and totally custom.

The pipes are held together with srpings from ACE hardware and the loops the springs catch on are old spokes bent around a bolt in a vice.

This stuff isn't rocket science - well OK maybe it's get Apollo 13 home type rocket science.
