Very, very slick. Nice work!

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - Smokin!

Yeah, real nice look. I've always liked that gauge.

What's this about "GPs verified" how'd you do that?

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - Smokin!

My wife got me a handheld GPS last Christmas - the kind for hunting and fishing. I haven't used it much but it does have a "max speed" feature. I put it in my pocket and hit the open road by my house being sure to not open her up anywhere else. Once I hit 50 mph for about 30 seconds, I did the limit until I got back home. The GPS said I hit 52 mph max.

Oh, and Diesel, I have to talk to you about something. Von said something the other night but forgot to PM you about it. I'm heading to bed but I'll message you in the am.

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - snag in the road....

Time to hang up the keys on this one for a little while. I was out cruising around for a while when the bike just sputtered dead on me. I had just gotten gas so I knew right away it was electrical. Sure enough, no juice.

Luckily, a guy with a trailer showed up and pulled over to help me out. After charging the battery for about 5 minutes, the bike started up no problem but didn't run for more than a minute before crappin out again. So we loaded it up on his trailer, got about a mile down the road when the kickstand went up and the bike fell over. Damn. Nothing major, just got a couple small dents in the tank (time to work double time on that cb200 tank) and poured gas all over the place.

I haven't had a chance to check the battery / charging system, but it will be a little while before I'm able to fix or replace anything anyways. Oh well, fun while it lasted!

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - snag in the road....

Oh damn man, don't hang it up! A new battery and an excuse to finish the tank you REALLY want is a sign to upgrade!!!!! Sorry to hear it man, but you'll be back in no time. Better hurry before the GTG!

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - snag in the road....

Oh, it will def be ready for Mountainfest! I have all day tomorrow to finish the tank, new battery within a week, and mate my seat with the new tank within 2 weeks.

And I'm going to check my charging system - hopefully if all else fails the parts will swap right out of the 71 motor into my 68 (fingers crossed).

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - snag in the road....

Damn Rich... Thats a real bummer. Hope you can get the scoot back in fighting shape asap. If I can do anything to help you have my number!

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - snag in the road....

Pretty sure I figured out the charging issue. Not only was the stator old looking (I know, not an actual problem), the wiring was kinda frayed in 4 seperate places. All 3 wires had open insulation near the base, and 1 of them was split with only a couple strands of copper holding it together. I did end up swapping out the stator from the 71 motor and redid all the wiring up to the harness. Needless to say, the charging system is top notch now!

Got the color just about finished on the CB200 tank, but I'm going to wait it until I can get a better test fit before I clean up and re-paint the seat. The 200 tank is about 2" longer and I want to slide the seat back that same distance but that means drilling new mounting holes in the fiberglass. I'm also going to need to make a new taillight bracket out of aluminum so the lights aren't shrouded by the seat pan.

On a side note, I was up at the hardware store getting some stainless bolts before my charging woes and ran into one of my co-workers. He's been off for almost a year now for back surgery (pins, rods, the whole 9 yards) and the only reason he stopped was because he was taking pictures of my bike. He said it's SO depressing since he can't ride his Harley but said it would bring a smile to his face if I could fire up the Honda - who am I to disappoint?

Heading to bed so just a picture:

Still working on proper seat fitment and I am going to have to extend the taillight / turn signal mount.

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - taking shape......

Nice Rich... a little mystery for everyone! Im excited to see this all wrapped up!

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - taking shape......

Geez, I didn't think I was gonna get called on it..... :D

Kidding. I'm trying to take my time on the paint on the seat and tank. Since the cb200 tank is about 2" longer than my old one, I wanted to move the seat back the same amount. Which means the taillight had to be moved back as well.

I did get some led's to replace the lights in my new speedo though. The devil's in the details, right?

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - taking shape......

Still plenty to do, so be gentle:

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - for those who have been waiting patiently

OMG! I LOVE THE CB200 TANK

I'm very biased on the tank, but jesus Rich, what a change.. I love it, its beautiful!!

Are you doing stock tank badges? I hope so, cause they will look wonderful

Have you considered color-matching the fender to the tank and seat? I think it would really pull the bike together

Awesome work again..I'm super impressed

Gentle my Granny's ass. You friggin' slacker. Get your candy sack up an attempt to half ass pretend that you have the motivation of a rock. Maybe that way you can try to get something accomplished, Cinderella.

Does that help? That is a really nice duce-hundred tank. What are the plans for color or badges?

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - for those who have been waiting patiently

Ah yes, the badges. Those are actually in the mail as we speak. Definitely not stock - wait til you see them!

And as far as painting the fender to match..... sorry Aetsh, it's staying black. I like the way the tank just pops all by itself.
