72 CL100 Mini-Cafe (Sold)

Re: 72 CL100 project (newbie)

Yeah I figured that's what you meant.

Well we'll see how things go when I get to that stage.

Re: 72 CL100 project (newbie)

If I did eliminate the wires on the bars, what sort of brake lever set up would you use so that it doesn't have the turn signal switch on it? And what kind of throttle would you use so that it doesn't have the hi-low switch on it?

I like this idea because it will clean up the look of the bars.

Re: 72 CL100 project (newbie)

Search for universal brake/clutch perches. Something from a dirtbike. As far as the throttle you can use anythin you want thats for a 7/8 bar and has the right cable end. On my chop Im using one from a crf50 dirtbike.

Re: 72 CL100 project (newbie)

Okay cool...

So would I be able to use my current throttle cable, or will I need a new one?

Re: 72 CL100 project (newbie)

Re: 72 CL100 project (newbie)

Holy expensive. There has to be a cheaper option than those.

Re: 72 CL100 project (newbie)

Knock-offs atre an option.... levers are $40.00 a pair(replicas). throttle about the same(also replica)..

Re: 72 CL100 project (newbie)

Mm k. Well I will scope out the salvage yard when the time comes and see if I can find anything that will work.

Thanks for the input though, I like the idea.

Re: 72 CL100 project (newbie)

So than I would just need to find a clutch and brake assembly.

Would the cable I already have work with that?

Re: 72 CL100 project (newbie)

Sometimes it pays to own your own business... Getting my tank sand blasted and the dents filled in exchange for some vinyl lettering.

Can't beat that.

Yup... BUT, itll be a little long with clubmans. Need to route it differently.

Re: 72 CL100 project (newbie)

Opinions on a color scheme...

I was inspired by a satin black and orange STI that the guys on West Coast Customs did last night... so here is what I am thinking. Orange frame, satin black tank with orange painted or vinyl graphics.

Graphic idea...

Would you guys do a Honda logo on the side? Or leave it plain?

Re: 72 CL100 project (newbie)

Further deconstruction tonight. Was glad to find out that the wiring doesn't look quite as daunting as I thought it would. As long as it goes back on close to as easily as it came off ;-)

Ran into my first road block. The bolts connecting the trans to the engine are stripped to hell.

The ones circled in red are the stripped one, and the one circled in blue I just can't get off because I can't get a grip of the bolt behind it. That is less of a concern than the red ones... What should I do?

Side without wiring, battery and air box. Will need to build/buy a new batter mount because I want to do the pod filter instead.

Labels. Hopefully they help in reconstruction.

I need a bigger garage... or less shit in it.

Re: 72 CL100 project (newbie)

Never mind! Don't panic! I borrowed a extractor from some mechanic friends. Hopefully it does the job.

hey treitz, a bit late, but if your using the stock wiring harness, everything is color coated. i just put the wiring harness back on yesterday and every single wire was color coated. i felt like a school kid playing a matching game. not as hard as you would think. its more intimidating than anything. i have everything about cleaned/painted and put back on the bike. now i start the engine as well. i got my gasket kit in yesterday. need to study the manual a few more times. haha looking great man, keep it up.

If the impact driver or extractor doesnt work, use some vice grips. You can usually get them out wit a good set of them. Also, once out... THROW THEM AWAY. Replace with these:

And techincally... Those arent holding anything together but the side covers to the block. Your (and every old honda lump) is unit construction. Engine and tranny are all contained in one housing.

I might have to try vice grips. Not sure if it was my drill, or drill bit, but I couldn't get it to work.

I will definitely be replacing them. Don't worry.

My main concern is that in order to get the engine out I need to get the chain off, and I don't think I can get the chain off without taking the covers off first.

Right or wrong?

Re: 72 CL100 project (newbie)

Wrong! find the master link.. if theres not one cut that bitch. and replace with chain that has master link.... Still get those bolts out though
