The leak definitely looks like it's biased to one side, I think Hillsy is onto something. My vote is cyl base gasket.

anything in my stable gets a full gasket set. just because. usually only takes a few hours

Have you figured any geometry, or do you just plan to stick it where it "looks" good/right and pray to the mono Gods that it will ride and respond to stimulus well?

that's some funny shiat right there, I don't care who you are...

Re: 79 CB750K, Bol d 'Or RCB inspired build

Who knows these engines? I have the gasket kit but what else do I need to rebuild the top end? Piston rings and anything else? I dont want to pull the case apart if I can at all help it.

Re: 79 CB750K, Bol d 'Or RCB inspired build

A great tip is to buty a Haynes manual.
I have 1 at home somewhere...

Check it out before U start taring everything apart :)

Re: 79 CB750K, Bol d 'Or RCB inspired build

I have a Haynes and copy of FSM, thats at home just looking to get an idea right now and start fishing for parts.

A little more off the wall now, What about my rear brake brace? Does it matter what position my drum is in? Im talking about the brace point for the drum that connects to the swing arm. Does it need to be in the 6 O' clock position or would 3 point straight forward work?

I can't really remember, so I could be wrong, but I belive the internals will not rotate around for your brake lever to be in the correct position for operation.

Your brake lever should be at the same angle as your rearset or whatever your using. Spin the drum and thats going to be tough. Why is the stock not going to work. KEEP IT SIMPLE MAN!!! Dont change anything that wont give you a performance boost. No point. (Other than styling of course, but its not like a rear brake stay is even noticable..)

I can adjust the lever on the drun to any position I need, I want to move the stay to the same mount as my shock, its right in line if not damn close to inline. Because the swing arm is upside down to facilitate the shock, the OEM stay mount is on the wrong side now.

why not just weld a new stay on? :-\

+1

Keep the mount the same as far as the position of the drum stay. A few degrees won't hurt, but adjust it too much and you end up having some wacky angles on the actuator arm. Weld the new arm mount on the swingarm and build a new, or use the old stay. Gretta's is stock as far as drum position, but I flipped the entire shoe clip upside down so that the actuator points up instead of down. Remember, these actuator levers on the rear drum will only mount one way on most Hondas. They have a master notch in them that keeps them from being positioned at any position. It's either straight up, or straight down with a few degrees of play for adjustment.

Re: 79 CB750K, Bol d 'Or RCB inspired build

Ok, Il go for the stock position and make a new alumninum stay. What kind of stresses are these under? Im not horney for speed holes but if it wont hurt, then il drill some.

Mine has no master notch, just splines going all the way around.

Re: 79 CB750K, Bol d 'Or RCB inspired build

They stop your brakes from spinning with the wheel when you apply them. A good bit of stress. Use heavy gauge alum.

look close! I am almost positive that there should be a master notch that is about three or four splines wide!

Re: 79 CB750K, Bol d 'Or RCB inspired build

Why try and make things difficult by trying to reuse whats already there? If you can make and weld things to the swingarm I would try to retain the factory geometry. The bracket and brake stay arm are under quite a bit of stress.

Re: 79 CB750K, Bol d 'Or RCB inspired build

Il do that.

I just figured "Why try to make things difficult" by welding shit to the swing arm while there is a perfectley lined up point to use with the shock.

Re: 79 CB750K, Bol d 'Or RCB inspired build

Because its not "perfect". Not trying to bust balls, but theres a reason its mounted where it is, because its right. Modifing things is all good, and I believe it should be done any time its beneficial. In this case, it wouldnt be.

Your thinking process if different from every person I know! I wonder about you some times!

Well, I will take that as a complement.

I'm coming to the quick realisation that if this is on the road by my dead line it probibaly wont be "ready". Parts of it could look cobbled togther and just rushed. Ive got to pick what to get done first, do my damnedest to have it on the road ASAP (could go back to stock but why?) or change gears to get my boat back in the water first for early in the season. The lady made it quite clear she wants to fish/ nap on the lake this year.

Besides, Im getting my Dads MINT 79 CB750K all decked out in oriognal Hondaline crap. Fairing, luggage rack, sissy bar, highway bars, etc... I just gotta drive the 10 hours to get it. (Shes keeping her clothes on)
