hey, give us a side profile shot, I am kinda climbing back on the fence, not sure right now!

Dude-

I ain't even certain of it...

Ever since I cut the thumb knuckle with a spinning Dremel blade this morning, I have been kinda seeing things differently. Okay- that, and my thumb is very, very stiff whilst bending...

You need a bigger headlight or a smaller fairing. There's not much chance of making the two you have there look any good.

+1.

I think a Buell light would work nicely.

Dunno about the indicators man....Hard to say without the side shot Twisted was talkin' bout.

I disagree here, take a 1/8 inch sheat of lexan and cut it roung about two inches bigger in diameter bigger than you hole in the cowl. Leave the protective cover over the lexan, lay it in the cowl over the hole, and heat with a heat gun slowly. When it starts to give a bit press the light or similar shaped object in from the back to form it to the shap of the cowl. Cool it, trim it, and mount it in! The the light can have a filler peice around it back to the cowl on the inside. Will look great and very custom!

Another thing to get at the aircraft supply shoppe...

I know when I end up tightening the fairing up a bit, it will look better; however, I am going to take tWisted's suggestion first.

Thanks for the link!!!

Indicator covers look kinda cheezy. Look at next post...

I decided all by myself that the cover for the indicator looks cheezy.

Don't bust my hump about the headlight bucket- this is getting fixed soon. When I add the Lexan piece like tWisted suggests, I will be making new bracketry to pull the fairing closer. We're still in mock-up/prototype stage here, and she's getting paint later.

If I clean up the wiring just a teeny bit, this looks cool to me:

Ok, I see some more solutions to the problem now that I got a new angle. Drop the creatine can and go back to the normal bucket, bring the cowl and light closer to the forks, use the lexan trick, and get yourself a nice belly pan or chin scoop. Mount all your electrics in the belly pan/chin and BAM! Clean and sweet front clip! I think you should do bar end mirrors and try sticking some LED turns in the bar end caps.

I just gotta get a mount for my gauges before I do any of that. I know many of y'all sez to go with Koso or Acewell gauges, but I just can't go there. I am a stock gauge guy on something like this. Gots to have the odometer with true miles.

I will probably still use the creatine can, as it still would clear the stem (I believe). But maybe I can go conventional with the h-light bucket. Belly pans that fit this beast are waaaaay too skinny to mount electronics. I have a bellypan in the garage that is the "universal" belly pan, yet I have not had it fit one bike I have tried it on.

I know dudes have more than likely re-routed electronics inside of these bikes in particular. I just haven't found the people who have done it to ask ::)

Bar ends are on order (should arrive any time).

I did just seak to someone on the telephone (Aztec 8), and they were willing to give me a few pointers. I am buying their gauge bracket to get this going.

Re: '95 Ducati 900ss!!!!

Try moving the gauges above the top triple clamp if that's possible for a more cafe Race retro look. It will also fee up space for the lamp. I'm not a fan of that fairing with the 7" headlamp, but I'm not a style maven either, so that's just a personal taste thing.

There are a couple of 8" headlamp lenses on fleabay that might work though the light pattern might be an issue. How about a pair of projectors one above the other and mold a fiberglass fitting to adapt them to the 8 inch hole? Maybe someone could P/S that.

I'd move the horn and hide it somewhere - anywhere unobtrusive.

Look at the next post- you'll see a few improvements.

The gauges are going to be a nightmare (since the cluster is HUGE), and I may end up doing what I didn't want to do- after market gauges. Still cheaper and cooler looking than refitting the lower fairings.

I have a few fibreglass projects to do on this bike, including a new seat cowl. Maybe the fairing will be one of those...

I broke down and did what I didn't want to do in the first place...

I started moving the electronics!!! I stripped the fairing stay, gauges, and installed fork-mounted headlight brackets!!! I swept the garage after this shot:

I test-fit the fairing, and she may just go on e-bay:

It doesn't look that bad poking though; however, it's still a bodge job, fit-wise.

Here she is in daylight:

I am making a seat cowl for her soon. I think I will have to remove the airbox (for access) to hide more electronics. Once the relays and such are zip-tied to the frame, the airbox will return. It's the bloody airbox that makes it difficult to move stuff, but there's PLENTY of room inside the frame. I have a clusterf*** at the headtube at the moment...

However, the fuse box is securely zip-tied (with very easy access) on the other side of the frame. This makes me a proud rabbit!!!

WARNING - removal of airbox with stock mikuni's is not a great idea on this motor. pods blow for this application. Now, if you put a set of FCR's, you'll be fine.

I understand about the electrics, as the fuse box is huge, and sticks out there. My suggestion is to keep cutting down the fairing brace to only old the gauges and the fuse box.

that brace you cut up btw, would have fetched around 150 on flea bay if straight...

i must say man, this surprised me, i like how it looks!
id say bring the muffler in a few inches though, otherwise looks great.
once that rear seat cowl is on itl look even better.
also may i suggest moving the horn under the frame as opposed to its current location?
anyway, great work.

now you got me looking into one of these instead of a monster haha

Oh no- the air box is only going to get temporarily moved so the flasher relays can be moved into their new location. I just can't get them to where I want them to be with the airbox installed, and there will be PLENTY of room once I move the relays where I want them to be.

As far as the fairing brace: Oh well. I may want to re-use that brace if/when I decide to do a full-on retro cafe racer treatment, anyway.

But I ended up moving most of the electronics (with the exception of the said flashers) into nice, clean, safe places on the frame. Once I remove the airbox, I can put the flashers further up into the frame, then re-install the airbox. I have them resting on the air cleaner at the moment. No, I am not really running the bike like that...

Thanks!

She has a long, long long way to go before she is finished, and I am looking into how I will move that muffler.

As far as the horn- she was a beyotch to get even into her current location, though I am DEFINITELY not done with her as of yet. I have to replace the horn switch  She sat for a considerable amount of time, and her brake light switches both are toast  And she is going to probably need a voltage regulator  In all, this "bargain" hasn't been quite so much of one, in some ways :(

But I love the bike, so it was still good...

This has been a fun bike to customise, and she will definitely turn heads wherever she goes. I would consider getting one to customise.

Now that thing is looking great!

I'm sure you probably won't do this anytime soon, but I'd chop up that subrame and make a new one or at least mod the stock one. It looks a little bulky back there. Other than that, you're moving in a good direction!

the ss/sp is head and shoulders above a m900

anyway I thought the same on those pipes. They are high mounts, which are more sought after than the low pipes, but the mid pipes are huge. Mine are a good 6" shorter.
