All Illinois/Chicago/General Area people sign in here !!

ok anyone from IL that can put this rumor to rest! ive been told it is illegal to put your plate in the vertical position????? any info would be great cause im down to the dumb shit to finish on my bike build!!! and this weather here has been perfect for riding

Any location or position other than the stock location is "illegal." It takes the right kind of dick cop to pull you over for it though.

Up on the north shore, that's all the excuse they need to stop you and issue a ticket. If you don't ride Sheridan road or up into Lake Bluff/Forest you may be OK. but Why take that risk. Mounted in more or less the original location looks more balanced IMHO. Tuck it up on a small brackeyt under the seat hump.

You can always remove it for a photo shoot.

In Illinois it's technically illegal to pull someone over for what constitutes an equipment violation, however if you drive through a camera zone it could be construed as concealing your plate if it's in a non-conventional location. I think that's a moving violation.

Tricky stuff. I'd just mount it horizontally. More symmetrical like that.

What they stop you for is an obscured plate. I was stopped a few times late at night in a small car on the north side and the excuse they used was that my plate was partially obscured by the dealer surround. I lived on the south side at the time and my GF was on the north side. I was pulled over a few times and they really only need a flimsy excuse to check you out and you don't need that. Once you are stopped they can find non EPA approved (non OEM) mufflers or mirror mounted at the wrong angle or paint too loud, any other part they want to claim is breaking some rule or another. After that you go to court to prove you are innocent. That seems to be the way it works.

horrizontal mount and it can be anywhere that is visible from the back... i had a side mount on my harley for a bit and got pulled over i think 10 times... fiinally got sick of the BS and turned it... actually we made a mount that allows you to either go up or down just by a kick of the foot

well looks like im just gonna go with the original horizontal position. i dont feel like dealing with all that bs thanks everyone for the info

Yeah, The north shore is my personal race circuit and I live 1/2 block from the Highland Park Police Station. You can do 20 over the limit, yet do not ride up here without proper lights and highly visible horizontal license plate

Nice bike Dean. You are about 15 minutes form us. Small world. Pity Highland House was bought and left to rot. Used to love going there for Sunday brunch.

Thanks Teazer.. this one was a fun build.

Are you the same Teazer from the "other site" ie; land of the knowledgeable, yet brutally abrasive pie lovers ? I like it over there and have not looked around DTT much. I do like the idea of the "local" pages on this board though

Absolutely.

Nice little unobtrusive rear fender too. maybe more people can be persuaded to follow your excellent example.

Guess its time for me to check in
1. Name: Kyle
2. Location: Lockport (south burbs by I80 & I355 interchange)
3. Rides: Currently I have my 74 CB750 and a 70 Trail 70 (CT70)

The CB is mostly stock aside from a dual disc conversion and Mac exhaust I think. Everything is there on it and it runs and drives. The front calipers were locked up so they are apart for a rebuild and I have all the tins off for paint right now as well. The paint looked like crap so Im redoing it metalflake blue. I'm ordering some clubmans for it this week and I should hopefully have it back together in time for Mods Vs. Rockers in June. Going for a cafe build but want to keep the option for two up riding as the wife loves rideing along. I traded three old snowmobiles and a trailer for the bike so Im money ahead so far :)

Got this one for free a few years ago, long story short I towed for a police department and the previous owner did a no no. Anyway Im holding it for my son as his first bike. Hes 8 months old right now but I figure he'll be riding within the year ;) lol. The early CT's can be worth good coin but this one needs some tlc to be decent. Like all Hondas, it runs and drives just fine with minimum care and hauls my big butt around just fine.

Previous rides:
This was my 01 Shadow 1100 I bought new when I was in college. Rode it 15,000 miles including a trip to Sturgis in 4 years until a cager with a cell phone decided I didnt need it anymore. I ended up upside down through the sunroof of an acura staring at a very surprised woman. Still miss her (the shadow, not the woman) but at least Im still here.

Prior to the Shadow I had a 88 NX125 dual sport and my first bike was a 68 S90 Dream that was semi converted to a dirt bike. Wish I still had both of them as well.

4. Club Affilation : Nope
5. Etc: As you can see Im all Honda when it comes to bikes, thats all I've owned since I was 14 and where my heart is when it comes to bikes. I have a passing interest in a few other makes and models but I could fill a warehouse with Hondas that are on my wish list (If anyone knows of a good condition 86 VFR750 in white for sale let me know) . That being said Im pretty much into anything mechanical. For cars & trucks I tend to lean to Chevy and GM in general but I'm not orthodox other then no Fords allowed. The rest of the fleet includes my #1 baby my 1988 IROC-Z Camaro, a 93 Silverado, 99 GMC Suburban, 97 Cavalier, 95 Honda Civic coupe with D16 swap daily driver and the oddball my 83 Mazda RX7, yes I love rotary engines. I also have a thing for old snowmobiles. I traded all but one for the CB. I held on to my favorite, a 75 Johnson JX650, 650cc two cylinder two stroke. So that about it. I look forward to getting back on two wheels as I've been out for a few years and I hope to attend a few of the cafe meets this summer.

I sold my As New 86 red-white-blue VFR a few years ago. Damn that bike looked good. Smooth as glass, but not very exciting after my 2 stroke race bikes.

I've always had a soft sport for the VFR's of all generations but that one especially. There is a clean looking 86 VFR700 on craigslist right now.

I live in Fox Lake, IL. I've got a GL1100 project I'm working on, but while it's down I usually go steal my dad's Road King to get rides in. Very convenient living next town over from your dad who rarely rides his own bike.

Sply let me know if you ever need a hand man i am your way ALOT my buddy i ride with lives right there...

Hey Joe, that 4th gen on your website looks an awful lot like a car I used to know from the MFBA, you didnt used to go by Hacker Joe did you? Im on there and Chitown frequently. The car Im thinking of had a very similar paint job but was a black base.

I see you powder coat wire wheels. Do you unlace and re-lace them yourself or do you just do it without disassembly? I've been considering doing the wheels on my bike but I havent decided for sure yet.

YOu realize with this many guys right in the area, we're almost obligated to set up a couple of burnups over the summer?

There are a couple of cool little old-timey diners and cafes out around my town and the next, and the roads are superb.
