Alright after riding this thing for about 100km I decided I didn't like the riding position. So here we go for take 3.
Justin you will like this better.
I have loved the new Indian scouts since they were release but there is no way I could afford one. So I have been sitting and looking at a few of them and taking in style ideas.
I am fairly happy with the front end on this bike style wise so I am planning to leave that alone. I may install the old risers again if I want the bars further back.
I had the old seat foam saved from the stock seat so I cut the passenger section off neatly and removed the toolbox, sissybar and alloy side plates from near the seat.
This has made me a lot happier with the style of the bike. I am thinking of building a rack to go behind the seat. As for the pegs I will reuse the rear sets as forward/mid controls depending on where they fit best. The plan for the seat is to install nutserts into the plastic and use the fender bolts to mount the rear of the seat. The front will use the stock location. The seat pan will be dark brown with black piping and yellow stitching. Provided I like the riding position once I put it together again.
No idea what I was thinking with the old seat foam. Anyway...
I am going to install the stock pegs to get her back on the road. I took the exhaust off and the front cylinder shoots flames when the revs drop. Still need to sync the carbs so that may be some of the problem.
Did a bit of work to the bike over the weekend. Got the new pegs mounted. In a comfortable position I need to buy 2 more heim joints and nicer hardware like acorn nuts and button head bolts but at least I know this setup works. The linkage arms are not in optimal setup but using a set of Fireblade rear sets as forward controls had me somewhat limited.
Nice foot controls. I like where you are headed with the bike.. Just a thought, run a light dremel with a small polishing wheel over your phone camera lens. If you are careful, you'll make it clear again. I had to to do that with mine after one of my grandkids got a hold of it.
Be a while since I update this thread. After the damage I did to my hand I had to park her up for a while. But I am glad to say that my strength has returned and I am back on two wheels again. The added bonus was being able to step back and think about what needs to be done for a while. I would like to install a different throttle cable to make it easier to sync the carbs and have decided on going with a 2 to 2 exhaust as it will be the easiest for me to get built and tune with. That and I have a nice pair of S&S slash cut mufflers that would suit the bike to a T
Cool ride man, and I totally hear you about the Indian Scout. I dig that bike too, and it was the inspiration behind the styling I gave my old V Star. Especially the saddle panels and stitching. I’ve got a photo of it somewhere. How did you get on with the 2K clear coat? I’ve used SprayMax and was really happy with the results - that stuff is tough. Holds up against gas spills too
- the design was absolutely lifted from the Indian Scout. Found some vintage leather-look vinyl and had a local upholsterer make the seat and pillion. Good call man, this saddle would look great on your ride
Thanks mate. She is coming along nicely for a rejected old girl. I need to sort out the exhaust and get some saddle bags to match the seat and she should be a lot nicer looking.
Still having an issue with the tuning but I am not going to work on that until I have the new exhaust made.
For some reason I have found myself searching for a larger piston set for this bike. I have been told by the previous owner that it has an overbore to make it a true 1100. So when I eventually want to do a top end rebuild I want to go big.
Nanno, do you know of any other pistons that suit the 1100? I have found a heap for everything else in the xv range.
Yup, there's some pistons out there (air cooled 911 for example) and also XT600 pistons can be modified, as the gudgeon pin and the compression height are pretty alright. I am looking very closely into those, as there's some beautiful billet pistons out there for reasonable money and if I could get my dirty paws on a set of raw billet pieces and machine them to suit... :
Have you tested your Ignitech TCIP4 unit on the road yet? That is very high on my list of parts for this bike.
I like the idea of replacing the old unit with a known good unit and the tune-ability is a plus for the future as well.
I am back to looking at rear shocks as well. I have seen that a common mod is to use Honda Rebel rear shocks but I would prefer something new.
