if we were all at a bar this would have been a drunken argument in the parking lot, just as I think it turned out here.

Saith a guy who was rousing rabble as best he was able ::)

Obviously the OP was at a loss and because of Joe's long association here, probably thought he might find some assistance by posting. IMO he should have handled this a long time ago off the forum..

I too am not taking sides and right up front was interested to hear Joe's side.

Based on The Powder Pros work that I've seen on DTT and Joe's professional responses, advice, and evident experience, I have recommended The Powder Pros to a handful of DTT members that didn't have local PC. I'm interested to know if I should continue doing that.

Looks to me like you need a lesson in giving quotes, the guys that ive talked to about your shop have all said the same thing. there is always some problem to help explain away the price jump. the bottom line is if you sell a job to the customer at x amount, above and beond that is your problem. no one should have to pay for your learning curve. if a motorcycle shop sells you a tube and pinches it installing. they eat the cost of second tube. and ive seen cars restored in less time, There is no way your backed up to the point where anything should take six months

yes, I ended up paying nearly 600 dollars for one wheel and a swingarm. what am I gonna do? not pay and not get my parts back? I argued non stop with the guy and finally just said fuck it and got my shit back. total joke.

I would have charged you $150 for a wheel in 2 stage color and $75 for the swing arm in black. You definitely got bent over without vaseline. I thought this guy was reputable but these stories are something that would never be acceptable at my shop.

When you call me for a price I will give you an "estimate" for coating. Once I have the part in my hand I will have had a chance to inspect and evaluate the piece and give you a "quote" for coating. That number will be a hard number you will have agreed on. No matter what issue that arises during coating will be on me and you will pay the price agreed upon. I'd still like to hear from Joe on how long they actually had the parts and what the real hold up was?

ooh i am sure! hahaha awesome and you could have done all the bearing work, spent the $100 + on powder purchases to try and custom make a color, have about 6 hours in custom blending and base coats, even go as far as trying polishing and tooling surfaces to try and make this happen. please do not comment on what you do not know about. I am not in the busn to rip people off.

i am going to collect documentation so i can respond to all the conserns. I just do not have the time right to sit down to collect this all. As you can imagine like most shops mondays are very busy for us. The issue with our website and FB is also being addressed by our IT guy. sorry for any confusion this may have caused. If anyone has any specific questions feel free to contact me, i am more than happy to address any conserns or if phone is easier i can do that as well. I have been on this site for a very long time, heck that was when i was still in a garage, and two moves ago. I have always been the first to offer help, have gone to over 6 local members homes this year alone to help out and get them on the road, and always offer assistance. i will make sure to address all these issues in full.
have a great day guys

Here is the price breakdown on the "$600" job. little more than just a wheel. we had $87 in powder we had to custom order to try and color match and i would say about 10 hours in samples... running a huge oven for just a sample mind you. the final color required 3 coats of powder to pull off and masking between each coat... removed frozen bearins in the swing arm and joint, and reinstalled the ones that where able to be used. we even took off $65 for the amount of time that it took to complete this job as an appoligy to the customer. Through the process i even offered less $ solutions for coating options along the way
total for this job was $380... NOT $600... i also can provide recipt for this

wheel
Rim: $45
Hub: $75
Nipple: .75 each (41)
Spokes: $1.25 each (40)
Spacers: $25 each (2)
Bearing install: $20
Lace: $65
True: $65

Swing arm
Swing arm: $65
swing arm joint: $20
swing arm/joint bearing removal/install: $45

examples of some of the samples we shot for the customer

the frame... this was just radomly dropped off at the shop. we where told to do the tins and other frame first as this frame is not a top priority due to the finances of the owner. We even allowed over a $1000 in work to be picked up without payment till he could get the cash and come back... a ton of custom metal work had to be done on the other parts... on 3/20 i reached out and agian let the custom know we have shot color samples and we have not heard back on what color needed to be done. later they came in and let us know what colors to do and we got rolling on the whole job, (2 frames, swing arm, tank (had a huge dent needed to be removed), rear fender, and front fender, few other brackets and battery box) all these where done in 2/3 stage powders and requried a good amount of work. Our strip tank does not accomidate large powdercoated frames so we do outsource this to another local blasting/stripping company. once we had the colors from the customer we placed our powder orders and started to knock out the jobs, being told the frame would be last. we have been in comunication with the customer the whole time, in fact they stop by the shop pretty regular. this is getting blown out of proportion with lack of details. I can provide more detailed responses if needed and pics/documentation... we are a honest company not trying to rip people off

it doesn't matter if the golden fluted gerberls flew out your ass while doing the job and you took that loss out the ass...
if you go charging more than an agreed estimate its called ripping someone off .period
now if it is an open ended time+material, no set in stone cost,no estimate job, then that is a totally different story
which was it ?
it is either one or the other in the business world

ah my buddy is back! it was an estimate, we where trying to custom match a color. i would have not way to give a solid quote on that, also additional items where sent that where not discussed. so after we found our closest match we priced the job based on materials, time, and requirements to complete the job. there was no "ripping people off" involved. Just checked our records and we had 15 total samples and had to custom blend a clear to get the color as close as possible. not many shops i can think of would have even taken on a job like this

I'm blown away by the lack of information these guys put it their posts as to what kind of work was being done.

Joe, this isn't my thread, but I do want to thank you for offering your side and responding to these customer issues for the whole community to see and its not required of you and hopefully shines some light on this.

I am not pointing fingers here, and the issues have since been resolved... well the frame is in base coat ready for top coat now... just wanted to clearify. with all the mud slinging and "grab your buddies" talk, really a let down that is the go to for some members to jump to conclusions. I have been a member of the site and have gone out of my way for the site to do write ups, data base, and even help people in person... hell i spent 5 hours working on a members carbs last week that was supposed to just be a sync and ended up being a full rebuild, leak, and then sync... not a penny charged...
i am not here to rip people off, hell most of my write ups teach people how to do it themselves and save money. Everyone is quick to throw stones... if you got a glass jaw you should watch your mouth. hahaha ahh good ol' 50 cent hahaha
enjoy your day guys

getting back to the original issue. the below parts have been picked up without payment and we let the customer do that as we were told he was having some money issue and would rather just pay all at once. so we let him take the parts
as you can see this is a custom 2 stage powder (not cheap) and a good amount of work

the rest of the parts for those of you that feel that you could have done this cheaper or i was "bending someone over" i would challenge you to prove it.... we charged $800 for a 3 coat job on the tins. the tank we did a full tear down to remove the pump, pulled a BASEBALL size dent out of the side, body worked it and then primer, base, blue, and flake top coat. keep in mind the amount of time body work as well as curing in the oven takes to do a job like this. I am not aware of many other coaters that could work metal like this with no filler and multi coat with these results. if you can post up pics i would love to see it. all these tins where done for $800 a heavy discount. We also allowed these to be picked up without payment and then a day later the owner came back with payment (to me that shows we trust our customers pretty well) we also stripped the kawi tank that the OP brought in at a INSANE low price

and then the other frame we did for $300. mind you this is a dirtbike frame so it is huge, was powdercoated when it came in so stripping/removal is much more involved, and then was coated in a candy (base and top coat)

as you can see our prices are VERY reasonable, we produce show quality work, and give our customers the benifit of the doubt. We will have his other frame done, and he can pick that up and pay for the parts he already has in his possession. This was blown way out of proportion. Again i challenge the other coaters out there, if you can do this type of work, post it, show it.... we do

Can't speak to MJ's issues but I think Judge Judy would be hard pressed to side with the OP on this one ;)

Yup id say so

I am not looking for a who is right who is wrong on this. just wanted all the facts out there... the frame will be done and this will be behind us. just wanted to give our side. The OP and his brother are local customers, and good guys we want to make sure everyone was happy in the end. i am sure it was a shock when they saw no website, no facebook, then came by the shop on sunday and we where not around... i understand why he freaked a bit, i was with my kid and wife and had my phone off while we where out... was a comunication issue, but on sundays i tend to make that time for my family as stated, once in a while i get lucky and even get one of the bikes out for a rip
