How do you tell PJ? Should the open coils face up?

Yep, they are multi rate springs, closed coils down, open coils up
If you fit them upside down it's possible to get valve float at much lower rpm with dramatic consequences

Cleaning the motor and Polishing the clutch cover.

still raining.

This weekend I'd like to...

Strip the tank and polish it. Paint the bar mounts and tripples. Add bracing on the swingarm. Modify gas tank to fit over the shock. Paint engine head. Fix upside down valve springs and install new valve seals. Blast and polish sprocket cover. Rethink fenders.

Yep, all the new stuff I ordered came from DCC.

A while back I randomly messaged a guy on ebay who makes replica 70's and 80's seat covers. I asked if I sent him the footprint of my seat if he could make one to match. He totally delivered!

Need to get some foam and figure out how to stretch the whole damn thing together. Anyone have a link to a build that covers stretching seat covering?

For inexpensive good dual sport tires check out Shinko 705's. I'm running them on my SR500 project and some BMW riders use them on their GS bikes so they must be OK ;)

Check out sanding-mops for cleaning things like your engine cases etc. Make quick work out of odd surfaces.

nice, what did you end up paying for that seat cover? he did a great job. what is your seat base going to be made out of? metal, or a softer material that you can staple into? i made my seat pan out of thick plastic, so all i had to do was pull the material underneath and staple it in place using a staple gun. just work slowly and check your work as you go. a hairdryer helps to stretch the vinyl and smooth it as you're working.

He ended up charging me only $25 (including the return shipping) which I thought was a steal. I have the seat pan shape in sheet metal and wood. I intend to sandwich them together and staple the vinyl to the bottom wood side.

From top down it should go....seat cover, foam padding, metal seat pan, wood seat pan.

wow, yeah, $25 for what looks to be a real quality seat is a steal! and that's perfect having wood on the bottom, just stretch the vinyl sides down and under and staple them in place. i like to start on the sides and get it centered, then make my way to the front and back. i'm have intense o.c.d. when it comes to that stuff, which is where this next recommendation comes from haha: keep an eye on the piping that outlines the seat. if it starts to look wavy, you know you're stretching more in certain areas than in others. you seem to be pretty handy, so i'm sure if you take your time you'll be fine!

7aliveatlast7, I wish I could give it to you to cover for me. I tend to be impatient with that sort of thing. Thanks for the guidance though. I'll post some pics when the seat is ready.

Today I...Replaced the valve seals and put the springs is the correct orientation.
