CB550 Bobber-Junkyard Dog

At least you're getting results.......the 2 bikes I have with carb issues never seem to work no matter what I do.

About to give up and set fire to these darn things.

Well, a crappy rush paint job and leaking carbs don’t mix very well. This was only a temporary deal anyways so I could get it riding.

If you want to stick with rattle can, properly done Rustoleum Appliance epoxy is fuel resistant. It's really great stuff.

That was my intent but I couldn’t find it when I went to buy paint. I wanted to ride it so I just got some black paint. I’ll probably use that when I redo it over the winter.

Been more interested in riding lately than working on it. After that two week blitzkrieg to get it rideable I’ve lost interest in turning wrenches for a while. I can’t ride much at the moment because I’ve yet to get it registered but I sneak a few miles in here and there. Rode downtown to get a beer today, still loads of fun.

It does look like fun.

That's my thing too, as soon as it's warm enough and I have something to ride, riding becomes priority.

Yeah, I have a bad habit of even letting maintenance shit slide when the weather is good.

I’m gonna have to pull carburetors after all. My #2 is still running out the overflow sometimes and #3 is leaking out the bowl. It runs good for a few minutes and then starts sounding/feeling like a couple of cylinders are misfiring. I have to think these two things are connected.

I imagine they are going way to rich. As the fuel is getting really high up above where the float valves would normally keep level.

Pulled the carbs yesterday. Cleaned the float needle on #2 and tweaked the float height a little. I think the gasket on #3 was pinched but I also found stripped threads on one of the bowl screws so it wouldn’t tighten down. I ran a tap through it, got a new screw and it tightened down. Sprayed both bowls and bodies out with cleaner while they were open.

Put the carbs back on and ran it. Now I’ve got gas coming out the overflow tube on #4. Joy. I’ll pull that bowl on that one tomorrow and try cleaning it out.

It’s still running like shit when I get going down the road. I’ll fix one thing at a time until I figure it out.

Here’s a picture of how I get the carbs back on.

Exactly what I'm going thru with the carbs on 2 bikes......350/4 and 750k.

Carbs on.......carbs off.........carbs on.....peeing all over the place.....carbs off.

Hang in there, you'll get it.......

I would love a 4-2 setup for my 550.

Threadjack over.

I could be interested in a 4-2. Eric seems pretty happy with his 750 setup.

well you guys just had to distract me today
so it turns out the cb750 sohc intakes may work with hose adaptors
now i will get back to work

i will dig my 550 out o the weeds and see if the whole thing will fit with carbs and air filter

then try to get it running it has been sitting for 18 years and growing weeds for 4
