Re: CX500 "Bastardwing" - 19 Dec - Will be painting soon and looking for input.
I've been digging around to try and figure out what the Australian equivalent of Tremclad or Rustoleum is, as mentioned in a lot of discussion about the $50 paint job because those two products basically aren't available here in Australia. I cam across the following bit of information here which says that our Killrust and White Knight epoxy enamel paints are the same as the oil based Rustoleum and Tremclad. As always I took that with a grain of salt so I managed to track down a MSDS for Wattyl Killrust and indeed it is an alkyd enamel the same as Rustoleum and Tremclad. http://www.wattyl.com.au/library/MSDS/D4.59%20Killrust%20Epoxy%20Gloss%20Enamel%206102-22%20Jan%2007.pdf . This one for White Knight Rust Guard shows it has a similar level of Alkyd but actually contains turps already in the paint Yes!MSDS MSDS Database of Chemicals from around the World: Suppliers of Additives & Reagents, Agrochemicals, Basic Chemicals, Biochemicals, Flavors, Intermediates, Bulk Pharmaceuticals, Polymers
The other products I've come across as being used for this purpose are Tremco Metal Armour and Brightside paints.
So it seems for me, the best choice is to stick with the Killrust as my frame and numerous other bits have been painted with the same from rattle bombs. If need be, I can touch up the whole bike with the same brand of paint.
